pride or dishonour?
by aus ant on Mar 09, 2007 01:48 PM  Permalink

I quote passage from pg 110 of her book "...Went to the lavatory...he stuck a finger up the hole and excavated within, allowing a backed up load of scropulate goat pellets to rattle down loudly.....he tried to catch them them before they bulleted the water. His finger emerged covered in excrement and blood...the smell persisted, faintly trailing him through his studies..."
She is not talking about a village peasant, but "a Cambridge-educated Anglophile grandfather" - a judge to be!
How can any Indian feel proud of this book which demeans and dishonours us. this para could have been omitted, but perhaps it wouldnt have earned the author all the accolades and prizes she obviously craves from the west. All limits of decency have been crossed by these words. Remember what Shilpa Shetty had to hear "God knows where your hands have been..." Jane Goody in all probability must have read this book.

I, as an Indian and proud of where my country is going, am shocked and dismayed that this para has been included in the book.
