Translations

It is true that the West is not yet open to translations but could it be because Indian poetry has not yet evolved to the free verse and open form that characterises modern English poetry? Could it be because Indian poetry does not deal with general human issues but confines itself to specific Indian contexts? All acceptance of poetry, original or in translations, can come only if the audience is able to identify with its emotions and images.

No Dear Sreekanth. He is a very accomplished poet.
You seem to be new to literature.
Dipu does not need any media hype for anything atleast at this stage.

India is more like an athlete with gangrene
by Vijay Naik on Mar 21, 2007 01:08 PM  Permalink

Dipu Chitre is a legendary poet - translator.
The occasional thinker in him seems to be equal.

Fact of the matter is, India is an athlete with gangrene in even broader sense. Not only in terms of "dispossessed" physically (30 per cent of our population), but "dispossessed" mentally also.(99 per cent of our population ).

And instead of correcting it, we have started loving the life removed from the inner being.

Any takers?
