same story will continue
by vijayraghav on Jun 30, 2007 09:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The same saga will continue year after year. people have got used to life. Those that do suffer(loss of life, property) themselves do not pursue justice, why would anyone else do anything for anyone? So unless one is amongst the afflicted parties and chooses to do something about it,nothing much is likely to change.I have been in this city for over 40 years now. and have seen it deteriorate.. gradually and slowly. the 'spirit of mumbai' is just an eyewash.I had petitioned the bmc on a few occassions on some issues, but nothing much comes out of these.only a complete ban on migration into this city ( atleast for a few years ) till it rejenuvates itself,as also clearing of slums with a very firm footing and proper waste management disciplines could help.. every additional human added to this citys population either by birth or thru migration is but adding to its woes. The infrastructure cannot support anymore.the railway rides are becoming increasingly stuffy, there are traffic snarls, potholed roads, power cuts, the mumbaites themselves are on the edge(there was this news of someone killing another over some dispute in a train on thursday ). the intolerance levels are increasing. Not able to manage their anger and frustration, they take it out on anyone that is available. Such instances would only increase. and then one day this city would become inhospitable for most and then reverse migration will start and perhaps then there willbe respite for those that last till that time.

INEFFICIENT BMC ENGINEERS AND CONTRACTORS (BOTH ARE BUTCHERS)
by abdul jabbar on Jun 30, 2007 09:39 PM  Permalink

EVERY YEAR SEVERAL CRORES OF RUPEES ARE TAKEN BY DRAINAGE ENGINEERS AND CONTRACTORS AND NOTHING HAPPENS. THE RESULT IS SAME AS BEFORE. BECAUSE THERE IS NO ACCOUNTABILITY. ALL THE PERSONS OF BMC ARE INVOLVED RIGHT FROM PEON TO STANDING COMMITTEE CHAIRMAN AND MEMBERS AND CONTRACTORS. NO EFFICIENT CONTRACTOR GETS CONRTRACT UNLESS HE OR SHE GREASES THE STANDING COMMITTEE PEOPLE AND THEN THE ENGINEERS. UNLESS THERE IS ACCOUNTABILITY, THE REPITITION OF SAME WIIL APPEAR AGAIN AND AGAIN.

RE:Hope some sense prevail on Our Foreigner traitor n Chinese Communits

It is true that our dwelling places are much compacted with people, bounded by concrete walls. Along with population control, immigration control, one most important thing to be done is consumption control. Always try to scale your sorroundings with natural habitat, not with USA, Saudi or England. We have become so obcessed with material development that we have forgotten to save nature gifted pure air, potable water and unadulterated healthy food. Instead to achieve undesirable artificial development we are keeping this biological systems in non-compatible concrete and plastic sorroundings. To get basic elements of life (air, water & food), we should inculcate to reestablish multi-tier hetero vegetation both on farm lands and urban sorroundings. We should stop hated towards nature and undesirable affinity towards arrogantly created artificial habitats. All wise people should start allocating at least 75% of our owned land under multi-tier vegetation and 25% only and hardly under concrete slabs or pavings. This will allow soil to absorb, store and supply water incessantly.

Stupid. I was busy working. If it rains, you don't pray. You carry an umbrella or a raincoat. Instead of running around like bees and ants, do something to save your city.

Dont Cry, get used to it.....
by lax on Jun 30, 2007 09:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mumbaites, get used to such things.

We Indians believe in suffering.

We suffer a lot without saying a word.

Afterall, we are the most peaceful civilization in the world's history.

But when u r peaceful & patient, people start taking advantage of you.

As a nation, we are a soft-state. So, we are pestered by pakistan, bangladesh, china.

Internally, our politicians & their massive bureaucracy takes advantage of us.

The very ppl who are supposed to protect us (ie police), takes utmost advantage of us.

Why all this have to happen to us????

Because, we are too 'Soft'.

we dont want to stand-up & fight back.

We dont want to make our hands dirty.

Rains in mumbai is just a small part of all this.

So, the bottom line is, either wake-up, or, get used to this, or settle in some foreign country.

There is no proper planing in Mumbais Development. Everythig is mess. Our Political leaders are busy in their selfish Political drama. Everyone want their personal development & no one is bothered in states or Countrys development. Now people should alert & ask the politicians about such problems. Its politicians Gift. Raja kalsya Karanam. Raja only responsible for Cyclone, droughts & other natural calamities. Raja is not doing Sadhana meance Gods aradhana or Dharmacharan thats why Praja also not doing Gods aradhana or Dharamcharan thats why such calamities are hiting India & World & it will increase day by day. Thats why everyone should pray God only. God can survive everyone in such hurdles or problems. So pray God, say Shri Gurudev Datt, Shri Kuldevataye Namaha. Now only God Can Save us in this difficult situation. So pray that powerful God who create such beautiful World for ours sake. But we destroy it miserably as we like it. Ours selfishness is so high that we forgot all. We are playing on our politicians music but politicians exploiting us very miserably. They are become Crorepati & we become roadpati. So keep aside this Politicians & pray God. Powerful God can survive us in this difficult situation. Oh! God, Almithy save us. Shri Gurudev Datt! Shri Kuldevataye Namaha!

All our planners, thinkers, and we ourselves should try our best to start living in natural conditions, giving a small space for concrete structures to stand and more space for rain water to be imbibed into soil where ever it strikes the ground. If we make hundreds of hectares of land concretized or barren, no doubt we are inviting runoff, consequently floods. At last me have developed to such an extent that we have forgotten to save and protect the three most important elements for our living that - pure air, potable water and unadulterated food. Except this we are getting all other thing on this earth, now. These things nature has provided us. But we destroyed it arrogantly to hurl the flag of material development. At least now everybody should try to give less importance to live in concrete structures and more importance to live in natural locales, that is within our residential or office boundaries. When 75% of living space is covered with vegetation and only and hardly 25% with bloody concrete, the human existence can be guaranteed for the future. Otherwise the human existence itself will be questionable. More planting - less mining, more naturality - less artificiality, is demanding. Try to minimize all kinds of pollution at all three stages like mining, manufacturing and utilization levels, as whatever we are now noticing is due to global warming. The main culprit here is our unending wants, those demand manufacturing, that in turn demand mining. If we concentrate pri

Welcome to Mumbai city. 2

Continued from previous message....

But If you are still living in this city is because you love the city like no other when it is not raining. Isnt it?

So in a way if you want to stay here, live with the problems or keep complaining like all others. To reduce the problems learn to use cleanliness as a tool for oneself and teach the community too so that we do not have clogged drains for example. The future is going to be even worse maybe. What is today a 5 feet high waterlogged area could easily be 10 feet after 5 years. What will you do then? Run to Jhumritalaiya??

Let us keep our city clean

We all agree BMC workers are lazy and corrupted and do not do their work on time... But look at their point of view... dont you think Mumbai public throw their garbage in open, throw plastic bags in gutter and thus there are choking problems... let us be good civilians and keep the city clean... we never see our faults... once BMC officer said correctly.. rich people take their pets for walk and make them shit anywhere and expects BMC workers to clean it and says mumbai is not clean... In foreign country like US which is very clean u wont even throw a piece of paper on road and in India u wont even think twice before throwing and blame officers that city is not clean...

Mumbai has the least problem due to heavy rains.. Even in rains Local trains keep on running.. We can expect few bandhs due to mother nature and u cannot expect that city will remain flood free even it has best drainage system.... There are scientific reasons too like High tide and low tide... Mumbai is handlng population more than its capacity so its wrong sometimes that we blame officials for all problem.. we too can trey to clean the city by following some basic guideline..

I certainly agree with u. If v have a little civic sense n help the BMC in doing their work a lot of problem can be solved. Its just tht v ppl know tht blame game like the politians. If u want to do something for ur future and ur children start doing it now and dont expect wht some one else can do for u. A famous man said "Think wht u can give the country not wht the country can give u" now do I need to say who said it? Mumbai pls have a little civic sense and it wil be a better place to live in.

I do somewhat agree with you and share my experience in London not a very clean city at that.

received in the post a letter stating that driver of so an so car spotted with throwing a cigarette out of the window now to face a fine of %uFFFD 2500 as per the law on littering and face prosecution or pay the fixed fee of %uFFFD 100 and lower of %uFFFD 50 if paid within 14 days. That I did throw and admit and paid %uFFFD50, lesson havind been learnt and would not do that again in my life at least now there would be one less cigarette thrown out of a car.

We need systems like this that work. We are the same people from good old Mumbai who live in London and correct ourselves only on account of a system which works. We are the people who have to make the systems and see that they work.

I can go on and on but this is what I say for the moment.

Rest is on who we vote for, the accountability of both poliyician and their work force etc etc....
