CONSUMPTION EXPLOSION SHOWING SIGNS
by Rehman SH on Jun 30, 2007 10:53 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Not pollution control. this is due to consumption explosion. You pack up every inch of soil you own with concrete. Not letting sufficient vegetation cover to imbibe rain water into ground. The main problem is not smoke from your vehicle, but due to indiscriminate mining and manufacturing, that is too to satisfy your artificial needs. Minimize them first. Pollution starts at the point of wants and gradually emerges out at the point of utility, manufacturing and mining. Limit the space under concrete and expand the space under vegetation. Concentrate first on availability of pure air, potable water and unadulterated food, they are utterly scarce now. Concrete and gadgets are nor our aim. Welfare !!!!!! Questionable is human life, because materials have overpowered the nature and natural being, that is human being.

mumbai's biggest problem is those pesky ghaties ... they are not the enterprising lot ... but want to be rich like gujjus ... so they get those local and state govt positions thru reservation and then screw the dept with laziness and corruption

no matter whatever mumbai collects as taxes, money will be wasted ... to make mumbai better, first free it from the mediocre ghaties operating the administration ... make merit not reservation the criteria for administration jobs

make mumbai a separate state or territory and settle these ghaties elsewhere in maharashtra.

by R on Jun 30, 2007 10:22 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

the builder lobby is so strong that the hi and mighty central govt bends over backwards to service them ...forget about the garib state politicians from kehdegaons...
more mangroves are being destroyed forest cover annihilated by organised slumlords on the name of housing poor people and vote banks
they are planning to use salt pan land to rehouse the minions of people coming daily from up bihar and bangladesh and settling in zopadpattis, this is just the beginning of the death of mumbai ! let the tide come and take away all the seaside bungalows of cm and dcm and politicians then they will know ! probably by then it mite be too late
WELCOME EL NINIO!

It is true that our dwelling places are much compacted with people, bounded by concrete walls. Along with population control, immigration control, one most important thing to be done is consumption control. Always try to scale your sorroundings with natural habitat, not with USA, Saudi or England. We have become so obcessed with material development that we have forgotten to save nature gifted pure air, potable water and unadulterated healthy food. Instead to achieve undesirable artificial development we are keeping this biological systems in non-compatible concrete and plastic sorroundings. To get basic elements of life (air, water & food), we should inculcate to reestablish multi-tier hetero vegetation both on farm lands and urban sorroundings. We should stop hated towards nature and undesirable affinity towards arrogantly created artificial habitats. All wise people should start allocating at least 75% of our owned land under multi-tier vegetation and 25% only and hardly under concrete slabs or pavings. This will allow soil to absorb, store and supply water incessantly.

WHY NOT ALL OF US TRY TO MAKE INDIA GREAT......
by hercules henry rodrigues on Jun 30, 2007 10:21 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hi everyone, last January i toured whole India and was not happy at what i saw in the cities. people intentionally dirtying up their surroundings. I saw New Delhi and how it is kept clean and i saw old Delhi and it is an entirely different story. What i say is that if the government can force cleanliness laws in New Delhi, than why not the entire state and entire India.
I visited the great Himalayas in HP and was speechless in adoring its beauty. But i had this to say to my family.... "Thank God, the masses haven't reached here".
I believe we all, every one of us, are to blame for this. We all should first start our cleanliness at home.
So please, let us all initiate a campaign, to have an improved and clean India, i know this is a very huge task, but let's start now and may b in 10 or 20 years we will have CLEAN VILLAGE, A CLEAN TOWN, A CLEAN CITY AND A CLEAN INDIA.

Thank you all

Rain water harvesting
by Miharika on Jun 30, 2007 10:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

RWH must be made compulsory for all buildings, grounds etc and suitable tax breaks must be given to manufacturers of such RWH equipment so that it becomes affordable to all. This will capture a lot of the abundant rain water, thus alleviating the flooding to some extent, and also making use of the rain water so collected for other uses such as raising the ground water levels, storage, car washing, flushing etc. The authorities responsible for various infrastructure debris left uncleared before the monsoons should be fined and also held criminally liable.

Good,Positive Ideas Miharika. Also taxing should discourage people migrating to big Metros. And above all those officials who regularise Illegal Structures should be sacked and Parties like the Congress and Actors like Shobana Azmi who shed crocodile tears for Slum dwellers for cheap Publicity and Votebank Politics should be Electorally thrown out of Mumbai for ever.
