Mumbai is capital of Maharashtra
by Amit agarwal on Jun 27, 2007 03:17 PM  Permalink

Stop discussing. Mumbai being capital of Maharashtra has a Marathi culture. Marathi is the state language and one should not fight on regional languages

No hindi here in english forum - ENGLISH is the communication language of indian government
by Sriram on Jun 27, 2007 03:13 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No hindi here in english forum.

English is the communication language in india and everybody understands english.

Better write in english my friends and avoid writing in hindi.

English is the international language, global language and more importantly it is the official communication language of indian government.

English is the most flexible language.

Apart recognising ENGLISH as the communication language, Indian government should declare it as a NATIONAL LANGUAGE because English is part of everyday life in each indian's life.

English unites india .

Natioanl language
by rational thought on Jun 27, 2007 03:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The thing is 99.99% of Indians do not know that Hindi is not a National language in our constitution. It can only be made a National language only when all states ratify it - a fat lot chance of that stupidity happening :>

Mr. recent ,
Though I agree with you that popular slogans like " Hum Do Hamare Do " etc. should be advertised in all regional languages & not only in Hindi , But I dont agree with your Hindi Bashing.
Pl. give me one answer , why English is so wide spread language through out the world & why you South Indian are so carzy about it ?? Its simple , because English has become Business Language thr. out the world & Large english speaking Indian population provide an edge to India over China in Service Industries , most specifically in IT. Though its language of only few million British , even than all Chinese & Indians want to learn it. So, you cant say that England is forcing their language upon Indians & Chinese. Whether you learn it or not , it doesnt affect them. Similar is the case with Hindi in India. All intelligent people wants to learn this language , as they know that this is the common platform for communication in India , which is useful not only in North India , but also in Central , West as well as North-east India. & only some politically motivated Tamilians are protesting Hindi , like doing black paint on Hindi written station name , not responding to innocent hindi speaking travellers outside Chennai station etc. , just for cheap publicity. So, its up to you , whether you adopt it or hate it , it doesnt affect Hindi speaking population at all.

JAIHIND

by recent on Jun 27, 2007 04:07 PM  Permalink
someone has reported my main post for abuse and they are doing the same when i repost it.

First of all I know hindi and can speak fluently. But I had heard North Indians asking "how can you be a an Indian if you dont speak hindi?" this were my concern is. North Indians are forcing others to learn hindi justifying it as the national language. This is totally unacceptable.

Why do anyone learn English? the opportunities are many if you learn english. Mr Dinesh Sharma Do you let you children learn in an hindi Medium school ?

I am not bashing any Hindi Speaking people. what i am bashing and hate about is the way North Indians are forcing others to learn hindi and their total ignorance of the facts about south india. i am not a tamilian by the way, I am a malayali. i had learnt hindi but do not want anyone to force me to speak hindi question about my patriotism if don%u2019t speak hindi.
You speak of innocent hindi travelers made wander about in Chennai (I do not agree with it anyway), so what about south Indians made wander about in North India since they do not know Hindi?

Hi recent point made by Dinesh was that even though native would be knowing Hindi, they won't respond back for a Hindi query. It is not simiar to the case when one does not know the language at all which is the case you are making.
