Intelligence? what intelligence
by roshan mathew on Jun 27, 2007 06:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

As Groucho Marx observed "Military intelligence is a contradiction in terms.%u201D
Indian intelligence services are uniformly underfunded, undertrained and ridden with the same mixture of incompetence and corruption as any other arm of the government of India.
Who cares about some phone intercept? RAW failed comprehensively to give indian military forces advance warning of pakistani intentions. The army also failed to respond in time to the incursion. End result: pitched battles for useless frozen lumps of rock and wastage of a lot of fine infantry.

Nice article.. must be a book worth reading...
wish we come to know more whats beneath, rather than what we can see...but sometimes for diplomacy reasons, some people need to be numb, due to which we still keep loosing lots of lives of our fellowmen at the front..
After all Pakistan can never be trusted when its a Kashmir issue... like they did during the Kargil, and all the other intrusions!!!
I lost my 2 best friends during the Kargil intrusion...

I m glad this discussion room didnt end up in the regular muslim and non muslim brawl....

afterall I am a muslim too, and i m a Navy officer...and i m proud to be muslim, and I am proud to be in the Indian Navy...

:)

Sir,

I completely agree with you that the Armed forces are not free of Corruption. Still, there are people serving in these forces who don't mind to lay down their lives when it matters the most. So, please don't generalise the things when you speak about the Defence.

Very well said. Just being in Army doesn't mean that they can be called patriots or brave. These fellow just get into the army as they have to do some job.

As good as any...
by Sachin on Jun 27, 2007 05:29 PM  Permalink

There will always be opinions. And in matters like these, concrete proof would be extremely hard to get by. Human Int failiures are difficult to prove or disprove. We must understand that no intelligence agency, however good, can be omniscient. With regards to the incident of CIA mole, well people manning these organizations are also Indians, with a moral fabric more or less as strong or weak as the rest of their countrymen....

The main issues are-
Did we learn anything ?
Did we improve upon anything ?
Will we be able to prevent such failiures in future ?

Musharraf - the main villian
by I Say on Jun 27, 2007 05:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mush is a major India hater. Maybe he holds an old grievance with India and Indians since he is a refugee from India. We need to watch his each and every move carefully. Keep your friends close but your enemies closer.

Majority of wars are fought in haphzard mannger, Kargil is not an exception to it. But in order to keep the moral of all concerned, all such literature must be banned. It is our Govt. our army, our airforce. This spirit must remain.

what congress government has not completed in all 50 years of rule is completed by BJP Government in 5 years. With the golden quadrangle project of connecting all the major cities which has improved basic infrastructure and saves lot of fuel for the country. Congress and all their buddies are just for the reservations and making india more and more poor and trying to improve their own wealth every year.

We have to throw these bunch of jokers for ever.

India has very talented PM and Finance Minister but unfortunately they are in the wrong party.

Vajpayee is second best or 3rd bet priminister. 1st best is Shri P.V.Narasimha Rao, who with out even simple majority successfully ruled 5 yrs in the midst of huge problems like Hawala,Babri,sukhram-telephone scam, Harshad_stock market, Arms droping in West Bengal, what not... His leadership is stupendous, he hardly spoke to press, but worked for reforms and when 3 times Dr.Manmohan singh resigned(then finance minister), P.V consistently persuaded him and made things progress, most of todays young India vow to P.V for his libaralisation of Economy, and safely manuvored the Economy to a stable state from a disaster like USSR(Still RUssia strgules to cope with).

RE:When it comes to national security no muslims comment
by on Jun 27, 2007 05:48 PM  Permalink
I totally agree with the view of this article. if any one had written or said about anything remotely connected with Muslim people anywhere in the world, then our Muslim brethern would be jumping up and down, and making a huge noise of it, but when it comes to our countries interest internal or external, nobody even raises a voice. It goes to show how hollow their commitment and attitude is towards our motherland. They only want their rights , but cannot exercise their right to voice when it comes to national interst. At that time their religious interest takes precedence over it.

I may sound like the so called hindu fundamentalist, but i dont care, bcause the truth is the truth.

With rgds to the Kargil episode , thanks to our selfless soldiers who laid down their lives, for the country, that we were able to come out of it with our heads high.

There are enough Muslims to sacrifice their life without thinking for their motherland INDIA.

People like you'll never appreciate MUSLIMS in INDIA no matter what they do for INDIA.

Comms at Forward Locations
by Avinash Gupta on Jun 27, 2007 05:18 PM  Permalink

THe article throws light on how itelligence agencies do work, which is not really known to common man otherwise. Forward locations are equally vulnerable since they have been using ages old methods of communications but may not be of much value considering the kind of messages interchanged.

However, the armed forces making use of such communications should also be aware of perils of using these communications channels, including mobile and internet. Hacking mobile these days is also not a big ask given kind of equipments being made available in open market these days. Though the wilreless and telegrapgh act has imposed some restrictions on use of frequency use but I have seen kids using 3km wireles radios and these radios also replyed some other communications nearby and even choedless phones may also pick up some such messages.
