It isnt..tht was the allowance fixed in 1947 for the winners of Paramvir Chakra apart from their pension..India goes on glorifying false idols but heroes like Bana Singh wallow in poverty!

No qualm if govt pays 160 or does not pay. A jawan fights for the motherland.he does not care for financial support.a jawan knows how Indian govt. treats Jawans once they are down. ask Bina Sir he will vouch for this.
If there was a blog on cricket or say Amitabh there would have been atleast 500 messages on this blog but as we know for us our heroes are Sachin,Amitabh etc not these fellows who really care for us.Thus only 5 messages for this fellow or our Indian Army. There is still time to improve,we have to think how we can help these fellows who ahve lost their limbs or the families who are alone now just for us whom they dont know. Please atleast we can do one thing to write messages on this blog and let these fellows know that we love them. We can also tell rediff to send these messages to indian army departments to tell the solodiers that we care for them

agree with what u say deepak, as a nation we are a thankless lot and the loved ones of those who sacrificed their lives are left at the mercy of the curropt bureaucracy.. and as regards the number of posts pl try and understand that this article is not read by as many people who read stuff about our false heroes who are just a bunch of selfish people glamorised by the media.. shud thank rediff for posting such articles too..

Dear Deepak, The mail what you see for so called sachin and Amitabh will always has 90 % hate mails, it shows how mauch the pepole hate them.These soldiers are real heroes and most of them do not write any thing on these people, it dose not mean they hate these guys or they do not love them,

Dear Derendra if i agree with you that 90%of the messages are hate messages on those blogs,but still if there are 500 messagers for them still to discuss on them atleast we can write 100 love messages to our Jawans
From the interview content (the line from Mr. Singh ' I don t know when it was occupied, could have been 1984) points to inadequate surveilance from the Indian side only. It seems they were complacent the glacier coul dnot be occupied or Pak did not have the wherewithal and intention to do that. In other words India was caught napping and the nap actually was deep slumber fro three years. No doubt Pak got very bold after that and J&K turned into the nightmare it is. Wonder if at least aerial surveliance could have given some prior knowledge.

Siachen or area surrounding Siachen is nothing but snow (whether it is peaks/crevacs/passes. FOr the great Indian goverment this place is of no value. Remember Words of Nehru when china captured Ladakh he said " So what it is a desert and produces nothing". This is what is the attitude of Politician towards MAinland and who cares how many died fighting and one figures which i think will always remain disputed. There are thousands who died of inclement weather/snowbite/diseases and accidents. I am not at all surprized to see congress goverment attitude towards Siachen and Pakistan.But you cant blame this goverment. In India we have puppet PM as head of goverment and in Pakistan they have Puppet master president as head of goverment. With Pratibha Patil taking over as president it will be just an icing on the cake. God bless this nation. Soldiers like Lt. Pande and Capt Bana Singh will keep scrificing their life for the nation and these coward lot of politicians will never understand the sufferings/miseries of soldiers and their families.
I read all your interview which is so interesting and historic. i Feel sorry about the low allowance you get from J&K government. but money does not matter you name will always remain in Indian history. As you said about the Political Leader..i totally agreed that they do not realize the sacrifices of our Brave Jawans. But we the Indian always acknowledge Jawans Scarifies and respect them.
