please don't use such words for anyone. if you think you're right in what you say, then say it with grace and elegance. such cheap words are trademark of a cheap person. and mahendra is partly right in saying that americans don't believe in god. it's just that a large percentage of americans compared to indians live practical lives.
and what about indians? "hello hello" you may believe in god, but are you sure you're morally right in acting that way? ask your conscience and you'll get an answer if you're morally right.
We have sigh of relief after hearing late night safe landing of Atlantis. Some Indians are doubting about Sunita being not Indian. I would like to assure all these doubting that we Indians and people of Indians origin are more proud to be Indians ( more then when we are in our country %u2013 you have to experience to believe it) because our heritage. And achievement we made, where ever we may be living on earth. Our people abroad have also made contribution in the field of Science & Technology %u2013 and the world knows and recognizes it now. Only some Indians ( having doubts) do not see it. Please do not doubt about Sunita Ji%u2019s feelings for India. She will always have India in high esteem - after all she is of Indian origin. Congratulation Sunita ji for your achievement

As Malik said.Indians Abroad feel more Indian and patriotic, than peoples in India.Because outside you are identified by nationality not ,caste or religion or region(north /south).

you know something? indians are like locusts. they prey on cheap publicity. there has to be anything or anyone remotely "indian" on any of the world's flagship ventures, and indians start beating their drums.
such poor people! they don't even know what space is. they certainly don't know that the earth is "spherical". indians today still believe when they hear someone say "prithvi gol hei" (the earth is spherical), that the earth is round - the saying meaning earth has double crossers residing in it - and not the physical appearance.
indians don't even know just what is "outside" the earth or what the sun actually is. india is still very much a mystical land with snake charmers and ash-sprayed ascetics still ruling the indian mindset.

many have already answered about the parachute. but senthil, i just posted above that india is still a land of the mystic. and you closely satisfy that saying.
if you think the shuttle is dropped from the space station with a chute, then you obviusly don't know that the space station is orbiting the earth in near total vacuum (about 350km above). how can you expect to be dropped with a chute from that height?
and even if the space shuttle is "dropped" as you said, then since you must have already seen the shuttle land in the position of an airplane, the chute must be on its top side and not the tail side as you saw.
and one thing, don't be so naive. come to reality. learn physics. get to know about what is beyond the earth and its atmosphere. haven't you ever seen a parachute on a fighter plane that takes off and lands on a sea carrier? if you don't know about these, then i'd recommend you to start watching discovery, national geographic and history channels.
prove once again that they are the top in science & technology.
only america has a flag on the moon and a re-usuable space vehicle because america is a meritocratic country.
anyone with merit will always succeed in america, there is no need to pull strings, pay a bribe, know a minister or have an uncle in an powerful position.
america is top in education (70% world top universities), business (300 largest corporations), science (270 nobel prizes in science), sports (2400 olympic medals)......because MERIT is given the greatest importance.

If don't believe in God then why God is on there side.We must believe ourselves that where good effort is made God is always on that side.don try to prove yourself you are the only true believer of God.yes we show more then they do so, we spent our time worshiping God they spent there time investigating God.and one more thing now every Indian is shouting "Sunita!Sunita!". where was she been before atlantis. don make ourself ashamed, sunita is an American, yes she may be of Indiana origin, and where is kalpana now as her shuttle went off on flame she too,what Indian are doing now. just who told you that the americans don't believe in god? again i'd strongly advise you not to rely on misinformation, as indians have the habit of.
and have you ever judged an indian on his or her moral stand? if not, go to the real "india" and start a moral test. i'm saying this because i've been doing it for about 20 years now and i can say flatly that indians are the world's worst morally educated ones.
just believing in god doesn't make you a morally superior being. do you take a positive stand in honesty, truthfulness and straightforwardness? as regards percentages, of course there are a greater number of americans compared to indians that don't believe in god. but have you seen any indian take oath on the gita and still tell the truth?
i'm not at all saying that americans speak the truth swearing by the bible. there are truth-tellers and liars both in india and in america. it's just that america has a larger ratio of truth-tellers than india. and it's just that india has a larger ratio of liars than america.
