presidential election

With respect to Shri Abdul Kalamji and the patriotic indians minus the stupid politicians who are presently leading our country.it is waste of talking regarding soniaji,if Rajiv gandhi would have been alive he would have respected the nations feelings and opted for APJ Kalam,and moreover these laloos,pawars and the reds that is the communists(these people better join a drama party as they being an ally of UPA make loud noises in the front and play drums and pianos inthe back.It would be better if laloo uses his managment brains and pawar his political brain (cant even select a coach and speaks about kalam to leave the crease)in selecting the president of india. i request the people of this country to throw these foolish polticians in to BAY OF BENGAL in the next elections and show what peoples power is jai hind

Well Rajiv gandhi was surprisingly a very good visionary leader ; I don't thing you should believe those silly stories going around about Rahul Gandhi who may just be a mediocre guy but I think he has much better options than to mess with dirty village women. The congress behaviour on Kalam was very disappointing - most people are very upset to see someone like Pratibha Patil becoming the President.

Another rubber stamp prez
by Kumar M on Jun 22, 2007 07:26 PM  Permalink

So we are going to have another rubber stamp president. Zail Sing, Venkataraman, etc were all like that. Only Dr. Kalam had the guts to stand up to the ruling establishment. Sonia is just like her mother in law. No difference. Its coming a ful circle.

India's new President
by Kumarendra Mallick on Jun 22, 2007 07:24 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Some Hon'ble ministers opine that sms,e-mails do not elect a president. True. But ignoring public opinion will result to similar to the one "if there is no bread, give them cakes", in the long run !

Government is for the people, and not for any political parties. Majority is transient.. it can be reduced to minority, if arrogance and pride go into the heads of some people in power.

nice article
by radhika kumari on Jun 22, 2007 07:23 PM  Permalink

This has been one of the most informative and well written articles in rediff in the recent past. No irrelevant facts/numbers and it clears lots of doubts such as whether the party whip is valid during prez poll, whether the total number of votes is same as the total no of MP MLAs etc.

Back to Slavery
by Indian on Jun 22, 2007 07:13 PM  Permalink

Imagine guys, With this sheep becoming President, Sonia will be the undisputed Queen of India. We are back to colonial days when the British Queen ruled the masses with a Remote ie., puppet Indians in army, administration, police etc.

History repeats again, Italian Sonia now controls the LAW (constitution), the Law makers (parliament), Law enforcers (police and administration) and the all powerful Armed Forces (thro the president) without holding ANY responsible position!!!!

It will be a shame on Indians and especially to congress to let this happen!

So the question is who controls SONIA? ... read hers and her Son's background on the net and see the various petitions like "Demand for Commission of Inquiry to expose KGB agents in India" on petitiononline.com and you'll know.

The least I can say is don't be naive, India is held hostage by people who are raping the country openly.

So the question is what can we do about this....

Incorrect calculation of the value of the votes of an MLA
by PM on Jun 22, 2007 07:10 PM  Permalink

The author of this article does not give a correct calculation of the value of the votes of an MLA. She says,

......The value of each MLA's vote is arrived at by dividing the population of the state by the number of seats in the assembly. The figure is then multiplied by 1000. This multiplication was done to make figures manageable.....

The figure is divided by 1000 and not multiplied by 1000.

Refer to the Article 55 (2)(a) & (2)(b) below.

(a) every elected member of the Legislative Assembly of a State shall have as many votes as there are multiples of one thousand in the quotient obtained by dividing the population of the State by the total number of the elected members of the Assembly;
(b) if, after taking the said multiples of one thousand, the remainder is not less than five hundred, then the vote of each member referred to in sub-clause (a) shall be further increased by one;
