President's Election
by Kuldeep Chandra on Jun 22, 2007 05:04 PM  Permalink

If India wants to maintain the process of electing president of India, she may do so. However, it should be made constitutionally mandatory for president to have consulations with the leaders of opposition on all those matters on which the President is requested to go ahead by the Prime Minister's advice and counsel. This would never allow President to remain merely as a figure head an apuppet of a ruling party or a coalition.

Why they (Congress) want a dummy candidate
by Bengal Tiger on Jun 22, 2007 04:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The congress as usual will resort to using Article 356 to dismiss state governments of opposition parties and even allies like BSP in case they do not co-operate.

Its a shame that an Italian is being given the power of being the kingmaker of Indian politics, be it appointing the PM or President.

Sheela Bhatt-Thanks for this article-Opening up-President Election Process
by Ashwani Arora on Jun 22, 2007 04:57 PM  Permalink

Your highlighting minutest possible and quotes from Mr.Kashyap will enhance awareness. At the same time apprehensions expressed for hung Parliament in the forthcoming years opens pandora of Fears. It is even beyond imagination to visualise Parliamentarians behaving like Mulayam,Mayavati,Laloo, and Goons of Congress and BJP,Regional Parties. What will Constitution or any Law Book do when Operators, elected members hardly know and follow. They are mostly a starved community. Not for Service to People,Country or Nation, but meet their own hunger first.May it not be Food, shelter etc, but Power.Urge for Selfless Service has not been cultivated. So it is difficult to find selfless individuals whose bellies are filled with an Urge to Service People.Manipulations are making way.Who so ever is the best at it will find ways to power in Government or not in Government.Whatever we may say,Mix of little service and most manipulations is a tried strategy and we the people have fallen prey for centuries. And that seem true for last five decades.Rules of the Game are determined by Public and Public is busy in fighting for survival. The traditionals, professional Politicians do not have clear vision as to where -they wish to lead the Society to ?

The onus seem -lies on Public .

Election of President in India
by manish agarwal on Jun 22, 2007 04:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Yes it is really stupid of our political system that it is electoral college consisting of MPs and MLAs who elects the President and not the people who elect those Mps and MLAs.Despite the clear indication from SMS polls conducted by various media channels that Mr. Kalam is the popular choice, still there are better prospects for Ms Patil from congress as the she enjoys better support from politicians mainly from congress. What one can expect from her? Will she be able to perform as per the expectation.Being from congress, she will be under pressure from UPA government to act as a puppet.Clearly it is a number game instead of popular choice as reflected by mass population. It is not a healthy sign for a democratic country like india. It is the high time to change the election process to compensate for the above indiscripancy.

You are wrong.

India can not fight against any foreign attacks or ravages . First there were the Aryans, then Muslims, then British, Chinese etc. Even Pakis have taken advantages. Now our politicans and white collar babus have also started ravaging the country!!!!!!!

I d not know how a bunch of corrupt and morally degraded politicians can elect a President. It is high time the common man realizes this and kick the dirty politicans out......UP/ Bihar are the main culprits.
