Thank you for reminding who elects the President. I am sorry I beg to disagree ...It is people who elect the President. We the people give power to politicians with a mandate to use it judiciously and not for making them powerful. A Mrs Sonia Gandhi is not Indira Gandhi and contry is more educated than before. People will demand more and more accountability of power they bestow upon their nominees. Congress may have their way this time but at a cost. All politicians must realise that the people do not vote to bring a new government but to vote out the party which did not deliver ..The instances such as now are easily forgetton by these politicians blaming anti incumbency wave.. All I want to tell the people in power.. act with accountability as the nation is watching your judgement

This is all just a flash in pan. The people who are writing these emotional mails, generally don't vote in the elections.Ultimately casteism and minoritism prevails. Politicians are aware of this and they just ignore as barking......
last elections,Sonia could not become the PM as she had to forcibly refuse the post after her meeting with APJ.So this time she wants a Prez of her choice who will support her for the PM ship in 2009 elections,and it is not that she wants a women Prez.It shows the selfishness or hunger for power.
What a democracy in our country. President is not elected,He is selected by ruling party and and the politician. people of india wated Sri A P J Abdull Kalam. Such a big post is selected by a politician and a party. we call this is democratic county. This is realy sad. When indian common people can elect the president that day we can say we are living in democratic county.

who is Miss Patil? What she has done to be nominated as first person of a country like India.... she should be ashamed of herself..... she is so shameless and filing the nomition forms...
Just like Rediff put article What should President Kalam do same way they have to publish some articles related to UPA-Left candidate Pratibha Patil, that she should not file nomination paper for presidency poll in favor of Dr. A P J Kalam.
I think all media should ask this question to common people and in the basis of response Pratibha Pati should take any decision.
India is in the hands of dirty politicians. Re writing the constitution is the way to save India. again that is in the hands of dirty politician. India in on the pillar of judiciary and parliament. Citizens don't have faith on the both pillars. Then, who will save the India.
INSPITE OF BEING A PERSON WITH A THINKING HEART, IT DEFIES ALL KNOWN LOGIC HOW MR. MANMOHAN TOES THIS LINE. FIRST THING THE POLITICIANS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT THERE SHOULD BE INDIA AVAILABLE. ONLY THEN THEY COULD BE POLITICIANS. IN MY 20 YEARS OF OBSERVING THE PARLIAMENT, I DIDN'T SEE THIS UNDERSTANDING ABILITY IN THEM. I THINK THE CONSTITUIONS NEEDS TO CHANGE WHERE PEOPLE SHOULD ELECT THE PRESIDENT & PRIME MINISTER (IRRESPECTIVE OF WINNING A PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION) WHERE A PARTY SHOULD ANNOUNCE THE PRIME MINISTER BEFORE THE ELECTION.

Your first question is absolutely right. It is very much clear that Dr. Manmohan Singh is now not an economist but a hard core poltician. It is a pity that this is how it is!
