Change the system!
by mohan ramakrishnan on Jun 22, 2007 06:51 PM  Permalink

Change the electoral system or rather modify it to enable the people to have a say in the entire matter. Whatever one might say, the electoral college now comprises of politicians of different hues and colours. Their allegiance is first to the party and later (?) to the President. So let these chaps cast their preferential vote. Soon after, a national wide election for the president should be called for. No politicians should be allowed to canvass for any candidate. The election process should be just simple and on the same day throughout the coutnry. Add this votes to the ones polled by the electoral college. This ensures the politicians not getting swayed by political considerations. The candidate who gets the majority of the aggregate votes wins. If this procedure is adopted now, Mr. APJ Kalam can win with popular support. Nice to know that electoral college can dupe the voting pattern (bereft of political whips, if any). It is convenient for people like Mukerjee to capitalise on the present electoral system for choosing the President. But then, people (popular force) are not Buddhus, as the time would prove later on.

NRI(talian) Politician
by rana bose on Jun 22, 2007 06:40 PM  Permalink

The whole rukus with sabotaging the reelecton an honest, refined and learned person has been done by that Italian (now domiciled in India). It is she who for petty political gains has propped up Ms. Patil (another one preparing to follow in the footsteps of Zail Singh).

Although I have immense love and affection for Sophia Loren (a great Italian actress), AC Milan (top Italian football club), pizzas (delicious Italian food), this woman (SG) drives me nuts. May God protect this country from her evil designs...

Do they value people at all
by Right Path on Jun 22, 2007 06:38 PM  Permalink

We the people have a right to think and expect who should become the president. The assertion of Pranab Mukerhjee and Lalu clearly indicates scant respect for public opinion and insult to peoples will. We call ourselves greatest democracy in the world. What for? Just to elect them?

After elections their motto:

For themselves: We cannot hear and accept but only talk - (as the left parties, Lalu always do)

For people: You should listen, accept and watch but cannot talk.

Why? Well that is the definition of democracy Pranab Mukerjee and Lalu wants us to understand.

Congress and its combine wants us to accept.

This has been the secular trend of Gandhi family rule, blind rejection of public opinion and working according to their political calculations.

Now the prime motive and mindset of UPA, is nothing but to place a persion who acts to their advantage during the formation of govt in next election.

See the joker Lalu teaching morals and ethicks to Kalam. His worry is that he cannot make sonia PM if Kalam continues till next election. Lalu who are you to suggest that president should not contest. Mind your business Lalu - he should be arrested for threating the president - we should be ashamed for electing such rougue leaders. They will taught a lession in the next elections

PRESIDENT OF INDIA
by mohan bisht on Jun 22, 2007 06:26 PM  Permalink

The writing is on the wall. APJ Abdul Kalam has people's mandate. If politicians do not realize this, its fine. They are the umpires. In the next general elections, when they assume the role of the players, the match will be over
for them even befire it starts!
