This study is correct only . first born childs are smarter than other children because they get the oppurtunity to become great person that they can do whatever they like to do. they are getting the freedom to do anything whatever way they are interested.

First Born are not getting freedom . On the other hand, 2nd and 3rd child are born due to defective condom

I think think Petter Kristensen and Tor Bjerkedal have used chelliah logic to draw the conclusions.

Mr. Prasad,
IQ or being smart is not related with the freedom one has. In this context we are discussing in-built IQ or smartness, not the smartness gained from experience or freedom.

First Born is not God's Gift. It is the Frustation of the Couple after controlling sex for the whole life before marriage.
people select wrong tools and then publish their ill perceived view on the subject. IQ has much wider ramification than just being born first. Wrong assumption like Johnson and Johnson will lead to wrong conclusions
I will not be surprised if another study totally contradicts this and concludes that the youngest sibling is the most successful with high EQ and high SQ. One can improve his/her IQ score by taking more tests; I think, the researchers first draw the conclusion and then fit the data to suit.
I have always seen the opposite of what these researchers have found. People have given good examples before me to prove it. List is long. Watch 'Home Alone' to know more. :)
I strongly feel there is a major flaw in this research. There are many many incidences where the youngest sibling is always smarter than the oldest one. Measuring IQ in most cases are determined relatively with other siblings in the same family when compared to their age groups. This research is certainly an eye-brow raiser and a big surprise to me.

u r the funniest, you r the middle one? You should have asked your parents to stop production once u were born! heheheheh
But often the elder ones are more idealistic whereas the junior siblings tend to be practical-reason being that while the first borns have to negotiate with ELDERS (since no other peers are available in a Nuclear Family)and PARENTS for their demands, the second (and third and soon) children can easily learn to negotiate with their elder brother/sister who may be 2-4 years senior only ,and Physically much less formidable.
This builds the negotiating and social skills of the non firsts, while the first borns sometimes perform better in highly intellectual or intuitive ,or even even quirky, environments.
Being a first born,my own observation is that it is the (situational )positive expectation by the family environment that helps them better in their areas. That also explains why those second borns whose elders died ,also improved performance.
In essence everything ,putting aside Karma theory for a moment,is the result of social programming ,including the "stroking",that the child undergoes...remember Eric Berne's "Transactional Analysis"?

Your article is a BIG BOUNCER. It will require an IQ level of above 500 to understand your remarks. Rediff discussion board does not have such highly intelligent and knowledgeable members. Hence , please write in a manner understandable like KISS. K - Keep I - It S - Simple S - Stupid
