Understanding the examples that the sceintists have shown, a parallel can be drawn where more than IQ, EQ should have been the criteria. Unless the study was purely sceintific and about techinal queries.(such as mathemetical,or other such subjects. For those who are not aware about this subject on EQ, you could get a reference from Web about Daniel Goleman. Emotional Quotient(EQ) is a study which is used to determine issues such as Emotions and how one over powers or has better control over them. These emotions are often reflected in the decisions and priorities that we make. I honestly believe, the order of birth makes larger and significant impact on Emotional Intelligence, where as Intelligence Quotient is more about grasp and ability to read.
can we apply same logic to Indians. We are different race altogether compare to Norwegians. I think reverse is true in our case as I am Yougest..what else to say
I think the study has some solid ground, because its true parents give extraordinary care to the first born children, they would go extra mile for ensuring the growth of the first child as the child is the first one. As we all have certain passion towards our first bought car, bike, home etc. This extra care and affection would definitely help in developing their IQ. The other view put by Vineetha Venugopal could be agreed to some extent on the base that the youngest would have the privelege of being attended by so many elders and thereby become emotionally quotient as well as intelligently quotient( I believe there is a strong relationship between IQ and EQ.) Thanks
I would extend and agree with view. I have even observed that second or third child generally has some physical or mental problems. I have even observed that third child might be slightly mentally cchalleged.

well, I definitely am not but since you are speaking on behalf of Hemal , am sure you are also the third child of your parents .... :)) lol
for people who have low IQ like you, please udnerstand and remember not to butt in un-neccesarily - samjhe the 3rd one !
This article is totally in contrast to what is seen in my family. I have a brother who is younger to me by 6 years. However, if u compare our IQs, well, the lesser said the better. He is currently working as a consultant in a leading software MNC at age 23 after completing his Engg in Elec. & Telecom & his pay is above what I'm earning after about 3.5 years of service in the Biotech industry. My knowledge is limited to my field of interest while he is an ace in Astrophysics, Science in general, Biology, Biotechnology & even politics....Now if that isn't an exception to this study, what is??? Cheers. Vineetha.

Its a matter of how good ur exposure and the situations you have been. This is the primary factor for a better IQ. Its not a question of first or second child. Cheers, Krishna

Well said friends, Even though I am not Vineetha's younger bro. but it holds good in my family too.
ACTUALLY REVERSE IS TRUE, PRACTICALLY I HAVE FEELED IT. IN MY FAMILY AMONG SEVEN BROTHERS LAST TWO ARE DOCTORS AND ONE IS IN MANAGEMENT WHILE AMONG FIRST FOUR ONLY ONE IS ENGINEER, AND ALSO LAST THREE ARE MORE SMART, INTEELIGENT AND HAVING MORE I.Q. ACTUALLY WHAT THEY HAVE STATED IS HYPOTHESIS NOT RESEARCH.BE PRACTICAL.AND ONE IMPORTANT THING FAMILY ENVIRONMENT AND ECONOMICAL CONDITION ALSO CHANGES WITH TIME WHICH AFFECT ONE'S PERFORMANCE AND ACADEMIC CARRIER AND NO ONE CAN IGNORE THESE THINGS.

May be it does not apply to large families. But what you said is true. I have seen the last few siblings in a big family to be the most successful.
The tittle of the article may always be true. There are many cases where the second child will be smarter than the older one. Its only peoples perception that since older sibling is the first one people look upto in case of any event, that he is smarter.
