in Indian context, it may not be true. All of the welknown scietist and welknown personolities in india are mostly 2nd, 3rd or 4th born. It is also obvious that socioeconomic and climate condition and family status also matter a lot.
May be true but whether it applies to Indians or for that matter to any other nationals apart from Norwegians is a big Question! Generally second borns are seen to be smarter as they adapt well and learn from the mistakes of the elders!

Un-huh. Did you survey. You second borns are plain stupid (on an average) and you are so far from the mean.
I do not agree with this, my personnel experience have infact shown that the opposite is true. The last born tend to be the most intelligent, porbably because they can get parental care for a longer period and they can learn from the mistakes of their elder siblings

I don't throw opinions. Morons have opinions on everything and open their trap for everything. They have a point to make even inspite of meticulous research and facts.
As the sample base of 241,310 Norwegian men is very large, one must believe the findings. But, it may be so for Norwegian men and need not be true in other countries with different socioeconomic & climatic conditions that are expected to affect IQ.
My observation which I have discussed with many individuals is that the younger ones are smarter. Reasons are also straight forward. For one, the younger one gets earlier exposure to new stuff on account of elder siblings activities. Perhaps parents are also forced to focus on activities on the younger one at the expense of the elder kid. What I do concede is that older ones probably will have higher emotional quotient (They are the ones who bear the brunt of sharing, the trauma of neglect, the burden of teaching etc etc. There is no doubt that these help them in being better prepared for the outside world, which can explain for there higher rating. EQ perhaps is more important than IQ to get success.
Or perhaps Norwegians bring their kids differently as compared to Indians!!

Yep.. even i also agree..Younger kids are more smarter.. they tend to learn from mistakes what elder has done..they also try to get the edge in the family by not committing the mistakes done by elder ones..in younger ones especially two brothers or two sisters, younger ones are less emotional and they mark the behavior of the people more accurately and act fast towards what should be the reply..Elder ones are more emotional they try to take things lightly & casually as compared to younger ones. In India most of the times younger ones have less responsibility of family & social & therefore they have no additional burden over their mind and hence they use that part of mind more actively.

i do not know who is smarter. my observation is eldest child tends to think and act in logically and socially more acceptable ways. and the younger ones uses their mind in a more lateral ways.
nice article.. an eye opener a few queries... was this survey done on people of same age( i.e when both the younger and elder ones attain the same age..?).. else can it be termed as accurate?? did it cover all strata of the society?? "The New York Times points out that among other tangential indices, firstborns have won more Nobel Prizes in science than younger siblings". -In a family, if the elder one chooses a particular profession say science as quoted in this article.. the parents might guide the younger one into opting for a different stream..!

You are right. They made a big mistake by doing that survey. so many questions even they did not think of. :)

Lord Krishna .. Born 8th Sibbling Einstein was 2nd kid .. List go on
IQ is oversold concept... People like Einstein score better in IQ test. But it does not mean all who score are equal to Einstein.
It is technically possible for your IQ to increase by an appreciable amount (20 points marks more than a standard deviation unit, which is very substantial indeed) over one%u2019s lifetime, it all averages out in the general populace.
