Police beats 40 women GK NEWS NETWORK
Srinagar, June 19: Police fired teargas shells and used, according to eyewitnesses, %u201Cbrute force%u201D on Tuesday to quell a massive protest in Beerwah, Budgam, against the killing of a 16-year-old student in an alleged fake encounter on Monday. At least 40 women, who were demanding body of the victim, sustained injuries in the police action. Police however said five cops were injured when the protesters pelted stones on a police post. It arrested 20 persons and booked them under different FIRs. Reports said hundreds of people took to streets in Beerwah demanding the body of Hilal Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Aziz Dar of Narwara. A 10th class student, Hilal had disappeared mysteriously a few days ago, according to the local residents. But Senior Superintendent of Police, Budgam, Syed Ashiq Hussain Bukhari on Monday claimed that Hilal was a member of the Lashker-e-Toiba outfit who died in an encounter %u201Calong with two more LeT militants at Chewdara, Beerwah. On Tuesday morning, when a group of people reached police station Budgam demanding the body of Hilal, police refused to hand it over to them, prompting strong protests from the people. The protesters blocked the Beerwah-Budgam road.
