There can't be peace with the Pakis
by Manoj M on Jun 19, 2007 01:37 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There%u2019s no hope for India. Anybody heading Pakistan is always anti-India. Remember Benazir with her 1000 year war & Nawaz Sharif with Kargil. Pakistanis on the street hate Indians, though they do have a pretence of liking Indians & talk well to Indian visitors. As they say, actions speak louder than words, so, the actions of Pakistani citizens is to vote for the party who is most anti-India. The entire nation has grown up on the premise that Hindus have to be hated & they have to revert back to the 4-500 years of rule. With such a mental get up, how can there ever be peace?

Yaar Manoj, while I agree with the general premise of your post, I want to make a small correction.

It was Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir's father who talked about a 1000 year war with India. Also, most accounts credit Mushy with Kargil, apparently Nawaz Sharif was kept out of the loop.

Devil and Deep Sea
by Harish Gurumoorthy on Jun 19, 2007 01:33 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Hamid Mir is probably right in saying that India should not sign any deals with Musharraf because the next government will not honour it. But consider the alternative: a civilian government answerable to an overwhelmingly anti-Indian population. Will such a government be able to sign a peace deal and more importantly honour it? At least Mushy is not answerable to the people and has the power to enforce any deal he signs until the Paki population is brainwashed out of their anti-Indian mindset. For India, it is like choosing between the devil and the deep sea.

I think this motion is wrong... I would agree that India should not sign long term agreement with Pakistan on any vulnerable matters so long as Pakistan is under President Rule...

I am of the hope that, even the J&K problems could be amicably resolved once democrazy is reinstalled in Pakistan and the Government of elected people would have a totally different view of the entire situation.

Just like how the Dalit (reservation) is the vote bank for Indian political parties, Kashmir is the trump card for any Pakistan President to survive..

In India caste system to go and in Pakistan President system to go...

progress to both the countries...

hehe... we indians dont want pakistan back in india. we are already troubled with our own population and internal problems, why invite more trouble from 'outside'? who wants them? even if mushy offers to gift pak to india, india should decline

Its a regret that Pakistan & Bangladesh were separated from India but India is better off without them now. Both the countries have deteriorated in all ways - India does not want parts on both sides full of poverty.

IT IS DEMOCRACY OR THE DECTATORSHIP THE TINGS WON'T CHANGE
by manish bagdi on Jun 19, 2007 01:21 PM  Permalink

THE TREAGIDY WITH THE People of Pakistan is that their Main Leaders are are being supported by the by the most powerful Western states and secondly the Citizen of the Pakistan are not allowed to vote freely according to their will these two thing they are being facing form long time, but if the dictatorship regim ends than this is really the good thing for Pakistan.
But during the rule of Nawaz sharif and Benajir Bhotto the situation of the Administration in Pakistan was also not very sound.
But this is the only assumption that the restoration of Democrasy may have a chace to treat people of pakistan with Justice.
It is only the Citizen of the Pakistan who should not support the Dectatorship and set a reballion action against this type of Administration.

your article is a waste
by Ramkrishna P on Jun 19, 2007 01:19 PM  Permalink

Dear Mr Hamid,
pakistan started off as a democratic country and then slowly deteriorated, can Mr Mir tell me who is reponsible for the deterioration? Isnt it the fault of the people themselves that they let some morons in the uniform rule them?
The generals days surely are not numbered and he is there to stay both at the helm and in the uniform. When things get relly worse for him, he will play the india and kashmir card, perhaps a small conflict, bit of tensions with india, evoke passions from people, divert their attention.... and ofcourse for Pakis anything against India would sell and create sympathy for the general.
Unless you pakis try to reform yourself and relize that there is much more to being a paki than just anti indian, be prepared to be ruled by crooks like these for decades to come!!
I would really appreciate if Mr Mir answers me on this point.

I don't think it was 'garbage', when it was being created. Many more than most were opposing the creation, which if there had been no Partition, would have been part of the so-called 'clean' nation that you claim India is. It doesn't help condemning the people, who by a mass majority, are helpless under a ruthless military dictatorship and corrupt polity. These are unable to bring about a 'clean' and economically strong nation, because the political environment (which is not of their choice or making - how clean and effective are their elections?) doesn't support it. So, why condemn them ... ?

Musharraf..
by Anand Bharadwaj on Jun 19, 2007 01:12 PM  Permalink

India is definitely interested in Pakistan to become Democratic...
Take all the support you need BUT dont bleed us.

If Pakistan had listened to India rather than US, it would have definitely had more say in the region then just being a barrack now for so called war on Terror.

Not dealing with Musharaf
by kundan yadav on Jun 19, 2007 01:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Mir Saheb, you are absolutely right. These Americans always see their own interest first. They know very well that General Musharaf is their right man. I think Indian Govt. should not do any dealing with Musharaf as when democratically govt. comes in power, all thing will remain the same only. We will be back again. So, not to waste time in Talking with General. Let wait for the democratically elected govt. in Pakistan first.

why was india divided
by piyush bakshi on Jun 19, 2007 01:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

i dont understand the logic for creating pakistan, divide a country in the name of religion!! today areas in bengal and border villages have significant muslim population, so in another 25 years will they too be ceded to form a muslim state!! were the hindus of india sleeping when kashmiri pandits underwent a genocide. what right does pakistan have to exist? its time that we selfish and coward hinuds did some hard soul searching, stopped worshipping false gods like nehru and gandhi, and asked for accountability from our administration and politicians...

vande mataram.
