This is the depth to which Indian politics has sunk. First of all, the election of the president is so politicized that an uneducated lady like Sonia Gandhi takes personal interest and chooses a candidate loyal to her. Of the current, Karan Singh would have been the best bet, if not Abdul Kalam.
Dr. Kalam is a great inspiration to the youngsters and eledres alike. A great and an horable man. In my view, it would make little difference if he is tamil or anything. I think this congress and their allies do not want him, because Dr. Kalam was BJP choice and he also exerted independence instead being a rubber stamp. May be the Italian madam is angry that he did not call her to be PM and Karunanidhi the VP.
To blame Karunanidhi is not correct. Can rediff fish out information and tell us whom was he proposing for the presidents post. This is just thrown at public to malign his image. By the way Mr Kalam is a good person and has enjoyed the highest position and prevelages for 5 years, what wrong in putting up an equally able person up there? I suppose presidents post should be stiputaled to 5 year term. Mr Kalam is much honorable man than his predessor, who threatened not to vacate the official accomodation even after serving full term, and only accepted to vaccate his residence after his personal new house was renovated in Bhopal
I'm not surprised that MK didn't support Abdul Kalam's second term. With all his talk of 'Tamil pride', this snake has always been against other Tamilians coming to power. It has always been about family dynasty - HIS family dynasty. When are the people of TN going to realize that. The fact that he didn't want Abdul Kalam for seond term may be for two reasons:
Like Vijayakant says, MK can't engage in corruption freely, in collaboration with the congress maffia, with someone straight like Abdul Kalam in power.
MK doesn't consider Kalam as a Tamilian, possibly because he doesn't consider muslims as legitimate Tamilians (so much for MK's talk of minority support.) He probably doesn't consider anyone other than his own criminal community as true Tamilians. Better for the Tamilians to throw this wastrel out of the country, and send him to Italy where he can engage in corruption freely, as much as he wants.

Seeing the frenzy over Shivaji film by Rajnikant, it seems that Tamils have turned worship of living humans into a fine art. Why does it happen only in Tamil Nadu?
