The congress has put up this candidate merely for a tacticle purpose, the surname patil/ shekhawat are more important to them than any other consideration under the guise of a woman empowerment. The nation wants Dr.Abdul kalam to get another term but one lady is opposing this, just for the sake of a rubber stamp who will just obey her orders. This is national shame.

It is only a perception that Prathibha Patil will be a rubber stamp in the presidential post. Some people r there always thinking negatively about whom they r not aware of.Dr.Kalam himself told before that he wants to go back to academics.

The Master Stroke... It was clearly a master stroke the UPA had hit. And it hit the right target. I have met H.E. Smt. Pratibha Patel in Rajasthan in her capacity as the Governor - and found her to be extremely gracious, a quiet, yet strong personality, very observant and understandable, very humane, yet firm to her convictions. This was during one of our programmes at jaipur during the Gandhi Katha. I believe that her candidature for the post of the President of the Sovereign India is also a tribute to the women soldiers of our country from Rani of Jhansi to Kasturba Gandhi to many other unsung 'heroines'. It is also an honour to the courage with which women have to live each day of their life. I hope that she is able to maintain and retain the dignity of the post, - thugh their isn't any doubt about it - as this coveted post has unfortunately become a game for politics and vote banks.

Yes Mr. Rajdeep, I fully agree with you. Though her candidature is a surprise, but she is a deserving personality with a long standing clean career. The people who are critisizing without even slight knowledge is shameful. Her family is in shock becouse of the pleasant surprise element, but they are in a shock for their lack of knowledge.

The Caste Stroke
There are many personalities in Indian politics who condcuts themseleves with integrity and shrewed enough not directly getting into any corruption issues.
However, is this enough to become President of Republic of India, a chair honoured by personalities like, Dr Rajendra Prasad, Dr. Radha Krishnan, Dr Kalam ??
Starting from Ms Sarojini Naidu to Indira Gandhi we always had women leaders in poweerful positions and even with that, what real empowerment have happned to our women? If such powerful posts cannot do any good to them, how can post like President who doesnt have any executive power can do any good to our women.
Congress has been playing typical dirty caste politicsm as usual.
I am really surprised the way comments are being posted about Mrs. Pratibha Patil. Most of the peaple are putting their ignorance about her as her fault.
Off course she had been a Governor of Rajastan since last 3 years, but when she was in active politics, she had distinction of being very clean and straght forward person. She was never in news for wrong reasons, and most important, she had never been considered Close to Gandhi Family, as blamed. Had been the case so, she would have become Chief Minister of Maharasta 25 years ago, but she had always climbed the ladder of success on the basis of her no-nonsence, low profile, straght forward and clean image.
Her name is not knew to the people who are interested in politics since last 25-30 years or more. So plz, plz and plz don't put the burden of your ignorance and lack of knowledge on her.

dear sunil
it is wrong to say that she was never close to the dynasty. in all media reports, u will find about her closeness, starting from the days indira imposed emergency. i also had not heard about her outside the maharashtrian circuit.
in case pratibha patil becomes the next president, it may b dangerous for the country. she has been finally selected by sonia and leftists bcoz -she is a sycophant of the dynasty -she is a woman (there r many better eligible women) -she returned the anti conversion bill of the rajasthan government as the governor (this will please those who want to convert poor hindus by hook or crook to christianity)
sonia already has a weak pm, whom she controls remotely. now she will have a similar president. it will make her immense powerful, though she has got only 145 out of 545 loksabha seats and ruling with help of her fierce critics like leftists, dmk and sharad pawar. if she wants she can declare emergency with the help of pratibha patil, in case there is any protest against her. THEN NO ONE WILL B ABLE TO STOP THE RULE OF MANY QUATROCHIES IN THE COUNTRY.
two factors r responsible for this state of affairs. one is that many educated people do not vote. second is that the congressmen cannot remain united without the dynastic stick, which has made sonia, rahul, priyanka and even her small children so powerful. no congressman dared to say anything against these persons after the very dismal show of the congress party in up elections,

Yaar tum hi pahle aise bande nikle ho jo ki uske bare main sab janthe ho..kya wo "pratibha patil soniya wali" ko do tin din main paper par parhkar information ikathha kar liya hain. achha agar aisa hain to ak article "pratibha patil soniya wali" likh dalo. sab jan jayenge.
V R more shocked than u sir, i never heard anything abt. her before. By reading newspaper, i came to know that she is a candidate of Prez. Even cap. Laxmi would be a gud choice of Prez.
Democracy is "The People" in total....when a Politician offers promises to the ENTIRE population, it can be considered democracy....as happens in USA & European elections.
When the Politicians offers promises to certain SECTIONS of the people eg. ethnic, religious, langauage groups etc, then it can NO longer be considered democracy....as happens in Indian elections.
The damn politicians should be let out of nomination policies and such nuisance. Every one born in India is eligible to contest as president. Let the people and politicians enter the voting after seeing the list of candidates contesting. This is what rest of 1 billion Indians do to elect a MLA/MP.
