Jyothi,

Kindly do not worry. All is fine.

I am a Muslim. I know the reality. There is nothing wrong there (Muslim community) and nothing of this type - as it is made out/like how you are feeling reading this article. Cool....

It is just an isolated case. You will know about it, may be, if you cross-check with educated-class muslim families or may be if somebody conducts a national or city-wise survey on this subject and covers educated-class muslim families.

Yes, certainly, with one odd such case, we cannot question or begin to think as "whats going on in muslim community".

Trust this clarifies your question and helps you find the true reality.

It is worse in Pakistan.

Excerpt from http://baltimore.indymedia.org/newswire/display/13638/index.php

"The News International Saturday reported the case of one Mumtaz Mai and her daughter, Ghazala Shaheen Bathi, who were abducted, held in captivity and gang-raped for 12 days because daughter Ghazala dared to become educated."

This is not True. I speak arabic and I read the Quran. can any one please send me the text from Quran where it says girls shouldn't go to school?. spreading this kind of ignorant information is tarnishing the image of Islam.

How should we know what you say about what's written in koran is true or not? What we understand is what only by actions of its followers.Instead of always trying to convince the victims of Koran why dont you do to the people who are guilty.

STOP ABUSING RELIGION
by Anil Yuvraj Kotnis on Jun 14, 2007 08:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dear Brethren

This is a case which shows blatant abuse of basic rights of a person. We are not here to talk on religion at all. I have muslim friends who are liberal and dont exactly follow the Arabic interpretation of Islam. The Islam I know definitely preaches brotherhood and peace.
I request everyone to respect all religions and let it remain at our personal boundaries. And please plead for this case of the girls wanting to study.

For the economic progress of any country, it's important for both men and women to work.
by Pramod on Jun 14, 2007 04:52 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

These Muslim countries are still lagging behind and not able to progress because 50% of their population is discouraged to work. The economy of these Muslim countries is far behind as compared to other economies of the world because of the same reason. India's economy is developing fast because here both men and women are contributing to the economic growth of the country. The growth in Muslim countries is extremely slow and these countries are still surviving in the 15th century...poor countries. All this is happening because one important section of their society (women) is not happy. Until and unless these countries change their mentatity and start respecting their women, these countries would have to suffer massive loss, economic set back, and poverty! Mark my words! I agree that Quran has given a very high position to women in the society and the holy book advocates great respect for women, but all these principles have to be exercised for bringing about prosperity, growth, and development in these nations.

FAME AND SHAME
by Rational Indian on Jun 14, 2007 01:35 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Protest against Prophet's cartoons bring fame
Protest against Mohammed Ali's actions is shame

Fatwa against Sania Mirza's dress is fame
Protesting against such fatwa is shame

Dear saif ahmed. U have no shame. U r criticising muslims all the times. They r very good people. They act as per their definitions of "fame" and "shame". If Your definitions r different, then not their fault.

punish these basturds
by jeevan jeevan jeevan on Jun 14, 2007 12:19 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

first these typical orthodox basturds dont want to send their ladies outside n educate them.and they want others to follow them.if not they punish them.if such people are spared then many like him will rise n women will be supressed from their rights.if he is so much interested in no women development then he should be sent to afghanistan.thats the best place for him n his family.there he can b satisfied by seeing all the women fully covered, uneducated, sitting home ect...should punish such basturds...
