Discrimination?
by Dheeraj Akula on Jun 11, 2007 09:49 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If somebody is not allowed into a nuclear installation, is it discrimination?

If somebody is not allowed into a software company, is it discrimination?

These people do not understand the original purpose of building a temple.

Ideally, even all Hindus must not be allowed inside a temple. Only those who are pious and follow the rituals must be allowed inside. A temple is not a public place, where we allow everyone inside, just to show off that we are not discriminatory.

In almost every temple today, the original purpose of building a temple is totally lost.

Once, I went to Tirumala, which is undoubtedly the most important temple for Hindus. After a long wait in a long queue, I entered inside and had a glimpse of the idol of Lord Venkateswara. I came out, took the theertham from the priest and looked around. A group of 5 devotees there sat on the floor, opened a food packet and started eating sweets and other edible items. I found it extremely irritating.

Even I don't really advocate discrimination on caste and religious grounds, but the point I am trying to make is everyone is not really "eligible" to enter a temple. That includes me too. I feel I am not pious enough to enter a temple. Everytime I go to a temple, look at the idol, fold my hands, utter a few slokas, break a coconut and so on. That does not bring abour the desired change. The temples have lost their sanctity. The original intention was to have a place of transformation, elevation and heal

RE:Discrimination?
by Dheeraj Akula on Jun 11, 2007 09:55 PM  Permalink

Continued from above:

The temples lost their sanctity. The original intention was to have a place of transformation, elevation and healing. That requires a certain atmosphere, which is absent in most of the temples today.

If all you need is a public place where all religions and castes are allowed, there are hundreds of public places to visit. Why only a temple?

If you want to worship God, you can worship God anywhere and everywhere, not just in a temple.

I feel there is a need to rediscover our temples, relook at them in a fresh way, to understand why excatly they were built and what is needed to make them more effective in bringing out the transformation in a person.

It is even more necessary to follow the old customs and traditions.

If the government wants a temple where everyone is allowe, why does it not build a few new temples with all modern facilities and allow everyone inside?

Let us leave the old temples alone.

"Only those who are pious and follow the rituals must be allowed inside."

Quoting your statement. So if Indira was pious and followed the rituals, she should have been allowed. It can't be a God who discriminates on the basis of name and so called religion. The most important thing in the faith is the heart of the person. That person is responsible for his own doings. Any worship place whether it is Mecca/Madina or Guruvayur temple should be open to all seekers unless trusties are scared of getting exposed by Media or miscreants or anti-religion elements. But again more you protect, more suspicion/opposition will grow.

Regarding purification, why can't they have pre-temple purification of these devoties. That way, the person entering the temple is forced purified.

Why you want to go to such temples.......you can go to the temples set up by Sri Narayana Guru, where all castes can go and worship......It means this so called politicians like Ravi, Achudanthan and Vellappally have no respect or belief on Sri Narayana Temple.......All these people want publicity........

Mr.Detective

The books you have mentioned above - Mahabharat,Ramayan, Bible, Quran - are not the same. While Bible and Quran are Holy books on which the entire structure of Christianity and Islam is built. You can not say the same about Mahabharat and Ramayan.

They are only Great epics of India. There is no single Book which is revered uniformly throughout India. Everything including Bible and Quran is Holy.

follow the rule!
by Senthil Kumar on Jun 11, 2007 09:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Every temple has tradition to follow. You cannot have a common rule for all the temples. In lord Iyyappa temple any one can enter irrespective of religion also some more temples. because the tradition is different. In Guruvayur the tradition is different, the marxists try to make common rule first let them try to do the same in their party first. Some muslim friend here says any one can enter masjid. But in mecca non muslims are not allowed even in the 10km radius of the masjid. These secularists never talk about this we also respect because this is their tradition. The rules are framed by Adhi sankara and he is enlightened, defenitely he would have had something in his mind while framing the rituals and these third rate politicians do not hava qulatiy to talk about this.

IF THEY DONT ALLOW PEOPLE OTHER THAN MUSLIM IN MECCA NOBODY CAN OBJECT. BUT IF THEY DO IN A TEMPLE PEOPLE CAN BRING A BIG THING. THERE ARE MANY CATHOLIC CHURCHES WHERE OTHER CHRISTIANS ARE NOT ALLOWED INSIDE IN MANY COUNTRIES. BUT ALWAYS HINDUISIUM IS A PLACE FOR CRITICISM THIS IS NOT GOOD BECAUSE HINDUISIUM STANDS FOR TOLERANCE AND I DONT ACCEPT WHAT HAPPENED IS CORRECT BUT PLEASE LOOK AT ALL PLACES AND THEN WRITE CRITICISMS

Here the point is not HIndus versus Muslim. It is the point within Hinduism that discrimination is taking place.People hace set ideas in every topic they just drag in other religion...Are Hindus scared of discussing the issue amongst Hindus.

Casteism
by unni krishnan nair on Jun 11, 2007 09:40 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

VS is shooting through his mouth. The Tantri has clearly stated his position that he has been following rules and these politicians see casteism where there is none. And it is these people who are more casteist then the average man on the street. This fellows wants all of us to shed our customs and join the red brigade which is becoming extint all around, may be except in WB and Kerala. And the reds in Kerala are busy amassing wealth, sending their children to UK for studies (a la Pinarayi Vijayan) while its SFI brigade is busy all the time calling for school and college Bundhs in Kerala.

What else can we expect from pseudo nationalists like you.

unni krishnan nair

Tantis must have explained their position at temple gate to Ravi??

Why they did not do this and like big followers of rules of temple clean the temple after they leave, they should have made their position clear before itself,if they had so much trouble.

You better check your facts. The issue is not of Ravi visiting temple. In that case there would not have been any purification.

And Ravi and his son knows the position of the temple in this regard. So there is no need for the temple to repeat its positon.

In Islam and Christianity, lower castes have become bishops and maulanas. There are also inter-caste marriages taking place. All casteism happened in the first place because of Brahminism. Have you ever heard of non-Brahmin becoming a priest in a temple?

Most temples in India's villages do not allow dalits to enter and pray. Bhaskar - get your facts right. Being blind to faults in our society makes the situation only worse. We are not competing with muslims. We have to make our society tolerant and enlightened. Leave the fighting terrorism bit to out army and police. They are doing a good job.
