Why Should Orkut be banned?
by Cutlet Gravy on Jun 13, 2007 12:41 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Should Orkut be banned?

What a stupid question!

Why Should Orkut be banned?

Don't we believe in free speech any more?

Ask the three Thakarey kids. They use Orkut. I don't.

If it does not hurt their sensibilities (only Pansey's) and is not disturbing them (the three Thakarey kids)why ban it?

Got my point(ed)?

Why ban anything?
by Miharika on Jun 12, 2007 06:02 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

No one is pointing a gun at anyone else's head forcing them to use Orkut, so why ban it? If you dont like it dont use it. Ditto everything else, if you dont like art, dont see it. Dont like books, dont read. Dont like a movie, dont watch it. etc etc etc. The choice is yours. It is about time the police effectively prevent the Shiv Sena and other politically backed lumpen from going on a rampage to enforce their will.

Don't like life...so..don't live it??
Avoiding an issue doesn't solve any purpose...it is to be resolved...
Though your view-point on the topic under question is commendable, you have a funny way of putting it...

It is to be resolved in accordance with law, not according to the violent whims of the SS, BJP, VHP and others of their ilk.

Look POSITIVE side of ORKUT
by manpreet singh on Jun 12, 2007 03:56 PM  Permalink

There are thousands reasons which counts to goodness of orkut, a single issue like that is not ORKUT's fault, so why ORKUT as a whole or its users should suffer. ORKUT had provided a means of communication which binds friends and people from diffrent parts of country and adds to RASTRIYA EKTA. Better find out the culprits who misused it. We have communities praising and appreciating the sacrifices of great freedom fighters like NETAJI SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE, SHAHEED BHAGAT SINGH, MAHATMA GANDHI and many more which are joined by millions of users. So, ORKUT is very good site and its positive aspects should be used and spreaded.

Hahaha...how absurd...ban something for commenting. If you want to do anything, do it in such a way that it will impress all. Banning a social-networking system only potrays a poor way of handling things. I completely agree with what Mr. Gomathynayagam has to say. We need some dictatorship which can monitor and be monitored as well.

Democracy!!! Doubtful
by samit bhattacharya on Jun 12, 2007 03:47 PM  Permalink

Thinking on banning orkut once againg shows how govt misues the power vested upon it by people of india by so called democratic process. R we really living in a democratic country!!!??. Orkut as i feel is platform which brings friends close dosen't matter how far physically he is. Words r not enough to explain the kind of joy which one feels when he gets in touch with a lost frinds, collagemates whom he has never thought of meeting after leave collage and orkut has made it posible. So much sentiments i attached with this website which brings peoples close. HOW THIS CAN BE LIKED BY POLITICAL PARTIES WHOSE INTEREST LIES IN DIVING PEOPLE AND WIDNING GAP BETWEEN PEOPLE. thinking of banning is really crime..

hello all those 'moderates' those who is an favour of orkut? what do u mean by democracy?what is the exact meaning of freedom of expression?we have to adopt the chinese way of monitoring the internet.there should b checks and balances in any democracy.banning orkut does not mean our democracy is under attack.if this same trend continues then the next generation will say going nude is also a freedom of expression....these same so called moderates will support that too.though i am not going to support the way shiv sena is protesting..but their motive is 100% correct.too much of freedom is always a hurdle to both constructive development and also to our heritage.

yes i agree with u.. freedom needs to be monitored but a ban is not a solution for it... if u are worried about the future generation then dont worry they will find out ways and means to overcome these bans in their own way. and as far as the current generation is concerned, lets learn to use things the way it is intended to be used. if we keep banning websites we will have to close down 99% of the wesites and even some of the leading newspapers for the kind of pics that they provide...can we afford that... so lets stop thinking about a ban and prove that we are more matured and can handle things ourselves

ORKUT BAN
by Yeshwant Shirodkar on Jun 12, 2007 03:36 PM  Permalink

INSTEAD OF BANING , ORKUT SHOULD SCAN ALL THE VIEWS EXPRESSED BY READERS . THE USERS SHOULD BE MORE CAREFUL IN EXPRESSING HIS OR HER OPINON. THEY SHOULD UNDERSTAND AND GIVE RESPECT TO THE FEELING OF OTHERS IN RESPECT OF WHOM THEY ARE WRITING.
