orkut is flawed
by R on Jun 08, 2007 02:47 PM  Permalink

orkut has a lot of flaws, and anyone can easily misuse it. i personally feel that orkut has so many social engineering issues, that there will be enormous problems soon. already there have been many murders, and impersonation problems.

one big reason is that people dont follow skeptic computing. people believe all the tripe thats online. anyone can pose as someone else, and people give away information too easily to any stranger, especially girls.

orkut hasnt taken any visible proactive measures . i hope they do so. or else they might end up getting banned. i wont miss it too much.

this is ridiculous

Where is this country heading ..I mean do we live in a democracy anymore. First it is valentine now its orkut ..What the hell these Shiv Sena people think of themselves ..are they going to decide how people in this country will live .. I certainly don't endorse the comments made on Chhatrapati Shivaji infact nobody would but that doesn't mean that the entire site shoud be banned.. the logical action would be to remove the offensive section of the site ....
Ban Shiv Sena and other organizations like Shiv Sena like the madrsas and insane fatwa issuing institutions. It is this conservative view which is keeping India from progressing....

One Orkut is not enough. We should have more freedom. Orkut should manage its own affairs for its reputation.

Ban on Orkut
by Sangeet Ghosh on Jun 08, 2007 02:44 PM  Permalink

This is really very ridiculus that Govt. should ban orkut. Why ? If we r eeting our old friends and communities then what is the problem. If people like shiv shena is creating any problem then govt should ban them. We all know what happened last year.lakhs of govt properties had been looted and gutted. What they think of themselves r they law makers ? I think we shuld find a alternative way of handling this things.

I a meeting my old friends and relatives with this site,m not finding anything wrong in this. What shiv shena is doing in all over the country we all know.Govt shuld ban shiv shena not orkut. This is democrat country not a taliban country,we have every rigths of showing our views. This is certainly is not a good idea to ban orkut.

How with rediff
by Rajkumar Soni on Jun 08, 2007 02:44 PM  Permalink

If some one post same material to rediff.com, should rediff also be banned ? Govt should not take any action against orkut but with help of orkut, action should be taken against the persons posted objectionable material.

Meaningless
by Yugandhar on Jun 08, 2007 02:43 PM  Permalink

Every aspect of social life and society has negative shades. Orkut is no exception. The purpose of orkut seems good but the intentions of some people using the service is bad. Even though I don't use orkut, I have dozens of friends who claim that they have met very old friends through orkut and are thus die hard fans . On the contrary, I believe it is killing the "real" social life of people who can actually meet in person, but prefer to meet in the virtual society!!!
The thought of banning orkut is foolish. The people who have concerns may contact google and have the objectionable content removed.

orkut

I do think banning Orkut makes no sense. It is a wonderful site. yeah at best, the contents can be monitored or if someone finds it abusive or provicative then it can be deleted forever,as most of the times it is done in rediff. there is something called freedom of speech, but obviously not at the cost of other's sentiments. be polite and then express.

RE:orkut
by R on Jun 08, 2007 02:51 PM  Permalink
orkut isnt bad - but it does not have checks and balances to stop abuse. for example, if i go on a vacation, and someone knows it, he can easily post derogatory messages " very suggestively and deceptively", some of my friends/ contacts might believe it. by the time i return the damage might have already been done.

this is just a fundamental flaw. there are scores of other tactics that can be used by a seasoned exploiter.

girls especially are quite frank on orkut, and post all thier personal details and friends. ask any girls how many "friends" request they get, especially girls posting pictures of themselves and happen to be pretty. (sorry im too particular) - but many of my friends have complained abt this - some of them get 50 requests a day from unknown persons! its crazy!!!

so the problem is not entirely with orkut, but the way it can be exploited, ... orkut can do something about it after knowing its problems, but - sadly they arent sdoing enough

Orkut ...........should not be banned
by pravin serrao on Jun 08, 2007 02:42 PM  Permalink

I totally agree that orkut should not be banned ,,,,,,,as it does not hurt anyone since it is a site that is accepted worldwide and truly speaking it is a very good community site.I think no political party should be given any rights that hurt the people and i think its just a political stunt
