Just Wondering!
by Moumita Boral on Jun 08, 2007 03:08 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Well Shivaji was a great king, leader n a very good human being, who lived his life by certain principles. But just wondering how many principles of Shivaji does Shiv Sena n its Sainiks do really follow. Yes agreed passing derogatory remarks on Shivaji was a crime, but their restoring to hooliganism over every issue, Is it right? And what do they think that by banning Orkut they'll be paying a Tribute to Shivaji. I really wonder if Shivaji would have been alived he would have surely felt ashamed to see the state of affairs going under his name.

I Agree.

So we need to fight against the bad side of orkut, try to inform the cyber cell about abusing/bad peoples and communities. Orkut is a cool place where we can communicate with friends, can make new friends and can find our school/old friends too...
I hope Shiv Sainik will try to help the cyber cell instead of opposing the cafe owners. They are doing great things(not all) for country, but they should fight against the right people and not the innocent ones.

useless people need issue to remain in news
by Himanshu Singh on Jun 08, 2007 03:07 PM  Permalink

the demand for banning shows the urgent requirement of literacy in some political parties

even uddhav thackeray son has a profile on orkut

why didnt shiv sainiks beat him up

shiv sena needs some issue to live in news thats all

previously they demanded to change name of hotel bombay blue to mumbai blue

dont they know the school where udhhav thackeray son studies is Bombay scottish

Jai maharashtra

if this is the parameter to ban sites then each and every site will be banned one day and we will only have shivsena.org in india

Ban bans
by Appu shaji on Jun 08, 2007 03:06 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Banning something at the slightest reasons seems to be a popular idea, at least among the administrators. It is a rather strange that most of the time medium or the format through which something "seemingly" malicious has been put up is the one under attack, but seldom the actual content. For me, I very rarely do take any notice or associate a value to the things that are put up in community sites. One of simple tools of statistics is that you take a average over all observation (our brain does a more complex analysis than this). The point I am getting at is that if the so called hate communities are isolated outlier entries, their impact factor on people will be highly marginal. The community is just a representation of a group of people who are already vehemently opposed or irked by the particular entity. On the contrary if these are not isolated entries, it is best that the group/person under attack realise they are non-populist and do something to figure out reason for their lack of popularity (among the netizens), rather than blinding themselves.

Trolls, hate messages, spam and insensitivenesses are going to stay. You don't have to look further than rediff message boards to get a good concrete example. The earlier people learn to ignore them the better (which I do believe most people to a certain extent have done so).

Ridiculous!

Why the govt entertains such ideas just because some anti social elements wish it is just beyond me. Its just giving them what they want if Orkut is banned.

I completely agree, orkut shouldnt be banned. It is a gr8 social networking website. U can get world closer by just a scrap away. Now in terms of banning Orkut, I feel Shiv Sena must ban the internet itself bcoz every coin has a good and bad side. Now it is upto you how you look at the coin. ORKUT is best.

Who is Shiv Sena to ban website like Orkut. They have no right to ban the website just for one inappropriate blog.

orkut should not be banned, its a very bogus idea, its a very imp medium through which a person will always be in touch wid the loved ones.

orkut does have serious issue with it. forget shiv sainiks and their problems
by R on Jun 08, 2007 02:59 PM  Permalink

orkut isnt bad - but it does not have checks and balances to stop abuse. for example, if i go on a vacation, and someone knows it, he can easily post derogatory messages " very suggestively and deceptively", some of my friends/ contacts might believe it. by the time i return the damage might have already been done.

this is just a fundamental flaw. there are scores of other tactics that can be used by a seasoned exploiter.

girls especially are quite frank on orkut, and post all thier personal details and friends. ask any girls how many "friends" request they get, especially girls posting pictures of themselves and happen to be pretty. (sorry im too particular) - but many of my friends have complained abt this - some of them get 50 requests a day from unknown persons! its crazy!!!

so the problem is not entirely with orkut, but the way it can be exploited, ... orkut can do something about it after knowing its problems, but - sadly they arent doing enough

:-)...i was just thinkin about the exact same thing...tomorrow they may ban this site to reply and post messages...the day after they may ban rediff itself...the month later they would ban the internet...after 3 months they would raid the commons man home for a pc or a laptop....why do they want all of us to become like them...stone age people...
well i think its a clear poll...who should be banned...why do we even waste newspaper space and time or things that sound so stupid...anyways...my opinion is clear...!
