Are we blind? The topic should have been 'Is Shiv Sena justified in their actions?' Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj will remain an icon of Maharashtra. His acts of glory and bravery in the face of strong opponents will be sung in the folklore, irrespective of Shiv Sena. Here the question is that of Shiv Sena experimenting with how far they can arm-twist the population, before a counter reaction brings law of the land back to the forefront. Identity crisis of the leadership...and Rediff, you ought to throw your might behind 'Orkut', judging from the reactions to this post...your number will be next. The post should read 'What's happened to governance in Maharashtra?' The police force is so infiltrated with Shiv Sainiks and their sympathisers that they actually stood as bystanders whilst an unruly mob went about unreasonable destruction of property of unrelated people owning cyber-cafes'! Will the State government filter out the police force and restore law and order so that the ordinary man on the street can continue a civilised existance? Hate instigates hate. All opinions and expressions can be countered by intelligent debate. If you need brute force then some urgent introspection is required because nothing is permanent - natural justice finally catches up.

He was born in Maharashtra and thus will remain Maharashtra's icon...let the nation not steal that away from us. I could sing many more praises for him but that will make me drift way from the point in discussion...that of state supported acts of vandalism and media's attempt to draw our attention away from it to 'Orkut'.

Agree with you.......Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj was a national hero......He inspired not only Hindus or Maharashtrians.....but the whole Indians.......He inspired the Indians and the true Indians inspired......But some people are not inspired and will not be inspired like those who are making these orkut as a big issue...How can they claim that they are the true hindus.......In 1960 this people fought with the south Indians and most of these south Indians were Hindus.......What inspiration they got from Chatrapathi Shivaji Maharaj......Let them go and learn about Maharaj first......These are gimmicks by the unpopular nethas........They can make an agitation because the criminals can loot anybody in such a situation........Such people should be jailed....But our country is ruled by the so called criminals and we can expect nothing more from them
Orkut is good but there were postings of hatred (on India too...) since years.
There wasn't much allegation at that time when our national flag was shown in flames and being stamped. The messages about our national hero's were brought forward where as mother INDIA was ignored. I have a great respect for the mumbaikar's as they are together at testing times and believe they will be the same in future. But, banning Orkut is not the remedy for any hatred being spread or expressed. We need a body to regulate the postings which effect other's feelings on Orkut
Due to some stupid acts of nonsense people doen't mean that you will ban whole site. If you start doing like this .. then how many sites, groups, blogs etc will you ban.
This is a ridiculous idea to ban orkut for certain remarks against someone whom Shiv Sena likes. These idiots do not believe in freedom of expression given to us in Democratic countries like India. According to them everybody should think like them. This is against the liberal ethics. Government should not get suppressed by such pressure.
