Caste vs economic disparities
by Ravindran Padinhare on Jun 07, 2007 08:46 AM  Permalink

Considering the economic disparities today and its criminal consequences (while an individual or two go on to be trillionnaires, trillions go on to be starved to death!) was the caste system that bad? The other day while attending some funeral rites I just enquired of the priest what these rites mean and his answer was a simple 'you ensure that all those who have been part of your life get a share of what you leave behind'. It included the barber who would ritually shave the beard of the son performing the last rites and collect his fees!

RE:Sonia's achievements!!
by pravin gupta on Jun 07, 2007 08:59 AM  Permalink
price rise of essential commodities is due to rise of crude oil in the international market. The cost of a gallon of gasolene in USA was $1.95 6 months back and now it is $3.20. Price of everything else has also increased proportionally in USA. So how can India remain unaffected by these international issues.

THE ARTICLE SHOWS THE PLIGHT OF hinduism
by ravi kumar on Jun 07, 2007 08:29 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is really saddening the way pseudo seculars handle the issue in which hindu sensitivity is involved. All the temple funds are being chiffoned away for building mosques and churches. Hindus are so politically weak they are not able to do anything. Why do christians want to enter hindu temples. Why dont they get converted? Is hindu temple museam or zoo where everybody who has got money to buy ticket can enter? These are expansionist religion and hindus should see the ploy black and white. What answer valayar ravi has for "All he has to do is go to the Arya Samaj, tell them he is a devotee, that he believes in idol worship, get a certificate, which takes five minutes, and then he can enter the temple any time he wishes, as many times as he wishes." Valayar ravi will have to answer this. Then his pseudo designs will be exposed. Or he thinks he has become all powerfull that he can challenge anyone everyone he likes? Management of hindu temples should be left to hindus only. Every body please remember and try to understand hindu property and religion is not there for bandar-baant. A temple is not parliament, why are people not understanding it why should secular writ should run amok inside of temple. It is just ransom, pure gundaagardi.

Ravi will NOT answer to the questions raised by the Priest.

Neither Media will follow it up.

We live in dangerous times where our eyes and ears, ie., media is filled out with people with so little understanding of India, its people, their culture.

I dare say, even EMS Namboodhiripad, a giant in his own right, did not dare what present Dewdasam board minister, a thug, is doing.

Shame....

There was a time when Manu Smriti was much respected by Indologists
by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay on Jun 07, 2007 08:19 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

If you visit St Paul's Cathedral in London, you will find William Jones Statue holding "Manu Smriti" in one hand. Its still there.

Manu Smriti was respected worldwide during those days. BUT WITH THE ADVENT OF MISSIONARIES WITH THE RISE OF BRITISH MIDDLE CLASS, THEY STARTED HIGHLIGHT JUST FEW LINES FROM MANU-SMRITI WHICH TALKS ABOUT 'BANISHMENT OF DALITS'.

HOW MANY LINES OF MANU SMRITI TALKS ABOUT DALITS IN DEROGATORY TERMS?

JUST HANDFUL.

BUT ITS PLAYED TO THE HILT BY VESTED INTEREST TO DIVIDE HINDUS ALONG CASTE LINES.

Even though Manu-Smriti is NOT a central text, its made as if Its THE SOLE TEXT of Hindus!

There are many many lines in the Quran, Bible which ARE FAR MORE DEROGATORY.

WHy those are not spoken?

There are two pictures of this.

You can find the picture also in Tom Trautman's "Aryan and British India".

CASTE SYSTEM IS BASED ON BIRTH ONLY
by Jesus Ram on Jun 07, 2007 08:05 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Even though many twisted invterpretations are given, caste system is essentially based on birth only. It is built on the basis of Karma Theory: depending on a person's karma in the previous birth he takes birth into respective caste or into animals. Bhagavad Gita never says caste is not based on birth. But the scripture adds the piont that to make his caste dharma perfect, a person should follow cetatin professional duties and qualities. So the Chathur Varna is based on birth only. Why Eklavya was asked to remove his finger. Because he did something, his caste did not prescribe. Otherwise, Eklavya would have been a good ally to Duryodhan. Why karna was often referred to as Sutha even after he became a king. Because he was perceived to be the son of the fisherman who brought him up [the fact that he was the son of Kunti was known only to Krishna].

So caste system from the beginning is based on birth only. Instead of giving twisted answers, let us reform it. Hinduism has many other merits, but system is blot that needs to be removed

Also, there is a difference in Shruti and Smriti.

Shruti is unchanging. The Gita falls under this category.

Smriti changs with time. The much deried "Manu-Smriti" is a SMRITI, NOT SHRUTI. So, TO SAY MANU_SMRITI TAKES PRECEDENCE OVER THE GITA is ludocracy, sole goal to have mischief.

You are an idiot. Read the Gita again. Its based on ones ability (swabhaba).

Even Buddha believed on Varna. But based on one's karma, ability.

Another of those christian fundamentalists commenting on Hinduism without knowing the facts.
Answering to the article then there should be a law to allow Hindus inside any masjid without covering their heads. Why are Hindus targetted in this country. Friends , the only way to answer this , go out and vote in any election in your area and vote out the congress and its allies. Do not sit at home like to 2004 general elections. Look what we got , a PM without spine

When talk ends, people take lathis in their hand.

This is the reason, Missionaries are gtting lathis in many parts of India.

And it will grow. Even in West Bengal, they started these conversion, anti-hindu propaganda.

Slowly, people are rising.

Bottom line is: So called ''secular' leaders and press to a large degree are showing huge hostility towards Hindus, their culture and rights
by Bhaskar Chattopadhyay on Jun 07, 2007 08:04 AM  Permalink

This is root cause of many problem in India. Hostility shown to Hindusm their religion, culture by politicians, media.

This present Guruvayur case is a open and shut case. Its a simple case where its based on tradition, logic and it does NOT discriminate Hindus in no way. Yes, there were time when dalits could not enter but those regressive days are thankfully over.

Alas, still its being simmered by vested interest like politicians, media.

No where in the world these things happen.

It shows Indian media actually furthest from ground reality, and represent a distorted picture. A sloppy journalism at the best.

Shame, that world's biggest demoracy's press has become so out of touch.

What is the real issue
by Jeffrey Mittal on Jun 07, 2007 07:32 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is indeed sad to read this interview.

A person, who has trined all his life to be able to do a certain set of Poojas as deleniated by scriptures, more then five thousand years ol, is blamed being tarred by the politicians like Ravi and Sudharkaran.

Let us see how the facts are.

1. Ravi's son entered and performed the ritual for his son(no doubt aided by the government staff)

2. The chief priest who was not sure if this son of Ravi practised the Hindu faith took the steps PREORDAINED in the rules of the temple to sanctify it.

3. Ravi's son had gotten married there before and since that had never made a declaration or produced proof that he was IN COMPLIANCE with the rules governing worship at that temple. So, the priest did hid duty.

4. So, Ravi, who incidently NOW says that he is Hindu, married to a Christian has raised his son as Hindu.(no proof offered)
