Public Transport should be improved and be more efficient so that people dont use cars for travelling to office and back. If the time taken for the travel is less by public transport and also comfortable no one will like to use cars. People say that sea water is rising. Why not use this water for toilets after recycling? The Govt has to think on this line may be with private partnership. There should be a garden on every road, may be there can be an entry fees of Re.1/- to Rs.5/- for maintenance.
we will start drinking petrol, diesel, alchohol and bio diesel whatever is available. It will be supplied by reliance, pepsi, coco cola, biseliri and what not. Then our life span automatically gets reduced and earth will be saved
In financial parlance it is called 'forced saving'. Every new building built hereon must have WATER METERS. The Government must make this compulsory. The existing buildings must ensure water meters within a given deadline. Make the electricity meter reader read water meter reading also. Residents must be enabled to pay the water bill at post-offices/banks/through the internet. This would be a mammoth exercise for India, but the future of our children, it must and should be done. If required, a variable tariff could be worked out.

this is no mamoth exercise, in Hyderabad, this is there since many years.
My summer vacations are very memorable. This was the time when me and my siblings would take turns and put in two hours 'pumping' water in the evenings, 'cause that was the only time when the corporation of chennai would 'let' water into our pipes in scorching Chennai. This was 15 years back. Now, we don't have to pump or run behind the water tanker with colourful plastic pots. It's because the water is pumped using motor, several kilometers away in the outskirts of the city and bought and brought to our water tank using lorries. While staying abroad, I don't let my son use the tub. It is always a quick, but thorough shower. In Singapore, one pays for water consumed. I think the same should be implemented in Chennai and all other states. Just like electricity reading, water meter reading should also be done on a regular basis. This would reduce wastage, ensure equitable distribution, through equitable payment. Else, a household with two members would pay the same as a household with five members, who on top of consumption at home, would also enjoy the "benefits" of a swimming pool - yes, this is getting very common in Chennai! If the water bill is not paid, then reduce the water supply to the household (this can be done using a water trickling device inserted in the pipe supplying water to the household). Educate children on water conservation and not on waste disposal alone.
Its the time to put alot of effort to prevent the world from global warming. Its not fair to discuss about globalwarming on this day only(i.ejune 5th).we have to create awareness among people atleeast in urban cities.we need to do some simple things like to save water, need for recycling, should not waste electicity(whenever u go out just switch off the lights, dont charge mobiles through out the night,u should not keep t.v in standby mode whenever u r not watching)rainwater harvesting, time to develop more lakes, need to change in transportation.
These so called chairman etc etc are all useless people. First they made money and in this process destroyed the environment. Now for protected and restoring it they will make money.
Why these so called champions donot stop travelling in A/C cars ( I am not saying A/C at their bunglaws). All these post are created by govt for their Cham Chas.
Comman man is still having a very environment friendly life style. These so called literates are not only poluting our environment but also imposing their thinking and life style on comman man.
1. When you go out for shopping in mall, items that you purchased will be packed in plastic bags. Instead, you please take a big bag from home, pack the items in them and avoid plastic. In smaller shop, ask them to pack the items like rice, dal in old newspaper instead of plastic paper. 2. Do not use plastic cups or plates if you are celebrating function (marriage, birthday etc). Instead use stainless steel plates and cups. Or banana leaves and paper cups. 3. Separate your daily garbage as Food Waste, Paper Waste and Plastic Waste. Try to reduce the amount of plastic waste. 4. If you are travelling a short distance, use bicycle instead of car or bike. No emission of gas and exercise for you. 5. If you are constructing a house where ground water is in plenty, try to construct a well than installing borewell...

Why construct a well than a borewell? i cannot understand this.
I dont knw where this whole global warming concept came into the picture, its the next new hype that is being propogated, let me ask you havent you seen/heard similar kind of evolutionary changes over time where the ice caps melted, there was high temperatures over a period of time? all this when we did not have automobiles or when the "western" civilization existed. Now we just have pictorial evidences in terms of photographs (old and current), temparature raises to validate our reasoning. Analysis, historical evidence, research needs to be presented to the general population so that they are not led to believe that this is man made completely.

Bharath you are absolutely right. Global warming happened all the time during earth's history . It happens due to increase in solar activity. Carbon emissions by human activity is negligible when compared to volcano activity. Its true. All rediff readers check the facts. The concept of Warming the Globe was created by a British Scientist. The funding for research was first started by the then British PM Margert Tracher. And the rest is history. Huge funding was poured in the study of Global warming. With the hype advanced nations are pushing for cleaner technologies like wind based, bio-desiel etc. All these technologies will be a disaster on large scale. Consumption and production equation dont match. Advanced nations are just pushing these technologies for making money.

I think u r a frog in the well. i have been a ardent nature enthuasist, and i have been trekking in forest for a decade now and i know how things are changing so rapidly.
The water in the falls i see this year won't be there next year!. the water streams keeps getting leaner slowly. i think u have cocooned urself. open up ur eyes.

He IS a frog in the well. Please Mr. Bharath Kumar, in millions of years of its existance, human being started using the fossil fuels, automobiles, industries, air-conditioning in last century. The amount of energy produced, gases emitted by human activities in last 20-30 years is more than what it did in the millions of years before.
Please have the sense to understand that the population has increased and and our concemption has increase. The earth is not of unmimited size as you would be imagining. Unless we start taking acre of the world we live in, our future generations will suffer.
As a first step, all air travel less than 800 km should be banned, whether tey are within a country or across a border. The effect of jet aircraft at 40000 ft is about ten times larger than the pollution caused at the surface of earth on roads and power plants. Please see the article Greenhouse Gas Pollution in the Stratosphere Due to Increasing Airplane Traffic, Effects On the Environmentby Mr. Katta G. Murty of univ. of michigan US. We are trying to pass a camel through the eye of the needle. The problem is much bigger than growing more trees and saving water, rain harvesting etc. Take to travel by surface mode preferably, the rail mode which is most efficient of transport of people and material. Wake up.

Bhai MP, if your suggestion is implemented than how these oil companies, Airlines and other supporting companies like travell agents etc etc will make money?
The problem is of mentality which all the time make to discover means of making money. Money is in the center of your thinking. And money makes you to consume more.
More you consume mean more you do the harm to the environment.
