by SUNDARESAN MAHADEVAN on Jun 07, 2007 12:03 PM  Permalink

Dear friends,

Don't spoil your time just by discussing in this type of articles.

This Rediff, Chunnu, Munnu and all are earning money out of it by increasing there meter rate.

Is there any discussion in this session is taken by rediff to the higher officials.

If the Rediff is having guts let them prove any good things happened because of this discussions.

Dear friends wake up.

Carbon credit is a joke!
by Kumar M on Jun 06, 2007 11:43 PM  Permalink

Has anyone heard of carbon credits? Its a joke. A factory in India can sell their carbon credit to another factor/plant in North America. The plant in India will be paid $$ per tonne. That meaning the plant in India will have to cut their carbon emissions (say x tonnes) so that the plant in North America can increase their emission by the same x tonnes. Well who is keeping a tab? No one. Indian firms are raking in the money ($$) and still emitting CO2 and the North American plant has increased its CO2 emissions since "it purchased the credits" from the Indian plant, thereby increasing their productivity/operation. Its a win-win situation for the businesses.

Shame on Sing gov!
by Raj krishna on Jun 06, 2007 09:12 PM  Permalink

"Drinking Water" is going to be the biggest problem that is going to hit India in near future... Most of the rivers have contaminated non treatable water... Gov doing nothing .. no awareness programs for preservation.. how could they.. they have no clue!

Surprised to see lot of people in india still believes water or any other natural resources are "gift from god"..

What will you do with economic development if people do not have water to keep themselves alive!

Water Scarcity (WAKE UP CALL)
by crazyforsense on Jun 06, 2007 07:48 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Who cares!!!! We will fight for religion, caste, reservation etc etc.

Who cares about water or daily needs. Almost 60 years of independence and there have been very few governments that had the right priorities. These days the priorities of the Govt. (Cong., BJP, whoever the heck it is).....is more on the lines of.....what can we do to ensure our vote bank....as opposed to how do we solve INDIA's basic problems....like clean air, water & land.

Ofcourse we can't sit comfy blaming the politicians for all & sundry.....people have to take the blame too. Especially those people who have put things like religion, caste BEFORE things like basic development.

All in all, a good wake up call. Hopefully Indian Leaders will unite and solve the REAL issues.

Friends, I was recently talking to a respected Geologist and his prediction was.....The scenario 50 years from now is something like this....Even if all our cities recycle SEWERAGE....yep sewerage.....there still will be water shortage for drinking purposes...He was happy we wouldn't have to live to see that day....most of us will though.

I am disappointed at the lack of awareness amongst the powers to be...where is the leadership?

Hi, politics the world over works on the basis of the hottest issues among the public. I don't think we can continue conveniently blaming the government or the media. It is our duty, everyone of ours, to build public opinion and priorities on major issues, so that the issues become "hot" enough for a politician to consider taking up for his self interest. Infact, the politician that reads the situation best would win anyway.

This kind of approach may not have been feasible a few years back. But now we have these blogs and ways to contact friends by chats and emails. We can make people aware of whatever we think is important, and the most important get heard. The mikes are not in the hands of a few now guys. All of our voices can be heard now and let's speak.

@Sarath...

We are on the same page, saying mostly the same things. People should raise these issues? In all sincerity, tell me.....you would have been reading reams of posts on rediff in the last 2 days. How many of those posts were -
1. On religion/caste crap
2. Personal abuses
3. REAL issues.
(3) were the fewest. Sadly.

hype and misinformation, by developed nations
by visheshamon v on Jun 06, 2007 07:26 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Global warming happened all the time during earth's history . It happens due to increase in solar activity. Carbon emissions by human activity is negligible when compared to volcano activity. Its true. All rediff readers check the facts. The concept of Warming the Globe was created by a British Scientist. The funding for research was first started by the then British PM Margert Tracher. And the rest is history. Huge funding was poured in the study of Global warming. With the hype advanced nations are pushing for cleaner technologies like wind based, bio-desiel etc. All these technologies will be a disaster on large scale. Consumption and production equation dont match. Advanced nations are just pushing these technologies for making money.
