Yes, But...
by Libran on Jun 06, 2007 02:42 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Truly, With every breath we release CO2 and 'contribute' to environmental degradation inevitably. But for that can we say, let us not breathe? But if the third world countries keep quiet, that is what first world countries will say.
They are already saying these things directly and indirectly to us. They are saying that our Paddy production has to be cut as it releases methane. They are saying no large hydrolectric projects as the reservoirs emit high amount of methane etc. Could be true. But what are the alternatives?
Indians must not eat stomachful when Americans (including Indians living there) die of obesity?
Sit in darkness when Americans run their gas guzzling vehicles everyday (Fuel price may put some curb on this but not whole lot) and use CFC for their comforts?

It is the western habit of encourgaing consumption that has led to all this. I agree, without consumption, there cannot be advancement? But it is unfair for one section of humanity to enjoy all the comfort and tell the other people not to breathe, eat or use electricity for the lighting.

plastic just fills up more landfills. I dont think plastic can cause raise in sea level and increasing in global temperature

Dude... plastic takes a long time to decompose... What science says is simple...
The heat bcoz the heat from the sun as well as the CO2 we emit is getting trapped in our atmosphere which is causing the polar caps to melt.. that causes raise in sea levels.

molecules expand when heated. and due to the heat the dippression we see in bay of bengal, or Indian Ocean increases.. Look at last years mumbai floods or hurricane katrina.

The fact is climate change does not cause natural disaster but only adds fuel to the fire like making a hurricane or typhoon much powerful.

A scientist can explain much better than me.. But that is the science claim.

AUM AUM AUM
Really it is the way the "AGNIHOTRA way" we can cleanse the atmosphere, I am also doing daily and also propagate this to all people and conduct AGNIHOTRA in groups in and around my place.Along with me 4 of my colleagues also perform the AGNIHOTRA daily.

Renweable energy and Nano Technology the way forward
by Mystic on Jun 05, 2007 05:28 PM  Permalink

Renewable energy to once and for all stop the destruction of earth and nano technology to bring efficiency at an unprecedented scale to how we use materials, perhaps create bio degradable stuff. Using Hybrids.

All well said but till corruption dissappears from this country all this is a Eutopia

Can we

Few days before it is noticed that Ms.Menaka Gandhi wrote an article that farmers at her constituency are burning the waste/cluster crops and this adds global temperature.

And we are closing our eye to note our unawareness against all such type of wrong doings. In Srilanka, Afganistan, Irack, Iran, and Pakistan and even in India too very many terrorists%u2019 activities are taking place before our eye lids and we act as we have not noticed all these. More over, Mr. George Bush is so eager to spread awareness on major cause for Ice melting is Global Warming initiated by various green house gases like Carbon dioxide, Methane, Nitrous Oxide, Water Vapours and Chloro Fluoro Carbon (CFC). Efforts are being made to control green house gas emissions to avoid global warming.

We are aware that for many years in the name of terrorism some nation%u2019s heads and colleagues are very much eager to eradicate terrorism and nuclear weapons and thereby killed thousands of innocents in Irack and surrounding areas and Afganistan and aiding some other nations to spread terrorism to other nations.

We human have to think widely on above all phenomenon and rush to do some thing we can as eco friendly.

Science..!!

"SCIENCE IS A GOOD SERVANT BUT A BAD MASTER", so we should not let science command us instead we command science & utilise it for betterment of human race & the nature... because both go hand in hand & one cant survive without the other...! we should learn from our heritage & ancient sciences in the form of scriptures such as vedas upanishads & various shashtras... where rishi munis had advanced in sciences & other fields keeping in mind the nature & then only they could reach the peak... i hope people value our heritage & revive back the the scientific era of the past because one should always remember - as to what goes comes back & what comes has to go(cause & effect theory)...!!!

Vedas also support SATI and caste segregation .. and you think it to be good master. Dont mix religion and science. Relgion is one's personal belief which I have no problem with. Science comes out to be universal truth. It takes time but science corrects itself over the course. In the case of religion.. it never corrects its mistakes.

No one can dare to say that our religious events are really myth and mere poetic rather than the perceive it to be the truth.

This is a universal truth about all religions. The will never correct their wrong doings.

No dear, both science and religion seek ultimately one and the same truth. Actually the earliest way of doing science has been given the name of religion. But, however, all their theories were not peer-reviewed by experts. That is why, we have aberrations like sati and cast discrimation now on the pretext of religion. Many people are still flouting the rules of science and religion both, that is the mother of all pollutants and environment imbalances.RC YashRoy, PhD.

Global warming
by M.P.Sankaranarayanan on Jun 05, 2007 01:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

The scientists around the world are emphasising on the warming influences occurring nearthe surface of the earth. They seem to be missing the very bitter truth of the amount of CO2 NOx gases released by the evergrowing number of jet aircrft flying at altitudes of about 40,000 ft above sea level. The temperatures of about -50 C at 10 mb pressure, these gases hang around at that level for years without desecending to lower levels.
The CO2 NOx gases at the surface of earth are purified / converted by vegetation and other chemical pollutant controls. But there is no such coversion up there without any vegetation or other chemical control.
Of course, the rate of fuel consumption per airliner km. is continuously getting decreased marginally by intense research. Will this be be sufficient to offset the enormity of fossil fuel burnt at that altitude ?
according to a scholar from Univ. of Michgn,(Mr. Murty) a 747 aircraft from Minneapolis to Amsterdam consumes about 100000 liters of turbine fuel carrying around 250 passengers. This is abot 8 to 10 times the sp. fuel consumption per pass. km on surface.
Now more and more people prefer to travel by air even for short distances of less than 500 km.
Is there no solution to this problem of proliferation of air travel ?
Can the governments ban flights less than 700 km ?
According to Mr Murty, we can give about 50 to 100 years before the whole earth becomes a desert !! Have the eminent scientists recognised this stark but bitt

While talking about the sky fuels, we will also talk about the Urbanization at the cost of agriculture/eco-system. We have no right to disturb our eco-system, if we do so, we have to pay a very high price. If we dont take care our next generation has to live in dark.
