Scrap this deal
by Dheeraj Akula on Jun 02, 2007 10:41 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

We don't want this deal.

Scrap this deal.

It is not a "deal" at all to India, it is a "deal" only to US.

We can do well without American technology.

Russian technology comes without any conditions. Let us use it.

india needs this nuclear deal because of energy shortage.india can get uranium and nuclear technology from US and other countries only if US will clear this deal.
regarding russia it has clearly stated that they will transfer technology and supply fuel if the deal is cleared by US.ALSO russian technology is not at par with that of US and france.Russians themselves are very interested in US reactors but due to US sactions they can't buy now

Mera Bharat Mahan Tha - No more

it is the rule when materialism becomes so important and people loose their confidence on themselves they make such agreements ... thinking that this will help them and it just gets them deeper in the hole .... India has previously done this same thing with east india company and now with US.... I have a feeling that we ARE THE NATION OF SLAVES!
Unfortunately that is the conclusoin and the logic seems to be very simple: Moghuls and Britains - 100s of years have created a tendency to be RULED and SERVE.... What is in the mind will show in our actions and that is what is going on!

For some time 1947 to mid 2000s i cud say Mera Bharat Mahan .. But now I have more respect for Iran!

NUCLEAR DEAL
by VIPIN sharma on Jun 02, 2007 10:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

THIS DEAL IS NOT IN THE INTEREST OF INDIA.THIS IS MODERN FORM OF EAST INDIA COMPANY. IN PAST , EAST INDIA COMPANY MADE SAME TYPE OF AGGREMENTS WITH THE RULERS OF THAT TIME. RECALL THEM. YOU WILL FIND.
WE SHOULD NOT BE HAPPY THAT WE ARE STRONG NOW.SUCH TYPE OF DEAL MEANS WE WILL HAVE TO OBEY AMERICA . WE ARE GOING TO LOOSE OUR INDEPENDENCE IN THE FIELD OF NUCLEAR ENERGY.
WE SHOULD BE SATISFIED WHAT WE HAVE AND SHOULD INCREASE R&D IN THIS FIELD.
NUCLEAR ENERGY IS NOT THE ONLY ANSWER TO OUR ENERGY NEEDS.

RE:nuke testin should be simulated on computers
by dull roots on Jun 02, 2007 10:04 PM  Permalink
Simulation needs empirical data. Having tested FEW thousand times one can do simulation. For India it would be like forecasting today's weather on the basis of yesterday's weather. Besides, what do you with virtual data when the need is for real energy? The urgent need is to get national consensus on political economy. It would provide multiplier effects for technology development.

The current nuclear deterrent with india should not be called a REAL deterrent for countries like China...as the biggest nuclear weapon india has is 15KT. with this deal india will not be allowed to conduct have future tests, leading its nuclear deterrent to an end.

Thorium
by Bidhan Mohanta on Jun 02, 2007 09:11 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

India should develope technology to use Thorium as fuel for running the power reactor. We have the world's largest reserve of Thorium. Then there will be no need to go through all these locks and deadlocks just because our land is not blessed with uranium

its a good move and a diplomatic success for India.. let us get uranium from US which we r badly in need to keep our soaring economy rolling. that doesnt mean that we r going to reveal all our military secrets to them.. we got the gut and we'll play the cards whenever we want... believe in ourselves!

Major obstacles still remain though, mainly about India's concerns over penalties arising if it tests a nuclear device in the future to reprocessing spent fuel and permanent fuel supply guarantees.

Also, does India want to accept slavery of USA by signing such a deal?

The legal interpretation is bit different. Indian decisions goes by Indian laws and not US! That should not be very surprising. What India recognizes is the mutual agreement India signs with US. If this mutual agreement is inconsistent with US laws, it is not India's concern. So the extant of the deal is well defined for India. This deal basically is a gate-pass then we have to negotiate with NSG, another US master-minded agency and they would bring in a second round of constrictions. There are lot many imponderables ahead. The third step would be where tyre hits the ground, negotiations for actual reactors and 'raw materials' for energy generations. Even the first step has not been taken! All the more reason for India to institute a 'Meter down' policy.

Prez Bush had in a very helpful manner, having understood the Indian predicament and agreed to the deal. Thereafter the 'pandas politicians' and the 'billionaire club' members the ones who 'extract' money out of the political dealings deploying a very NON-market mechanism have brought in lobbies and influences to subvert the noble intent. It is not easy to get past these 'dhandha-pandas' and get a fair deal which is honourbale to our Indian Constitution.

DEAL IS BEING DONE SOLELY BY US.US IS GIVING SOMETHING WITH STRINGS ATTACHED.INDIA IS ONLY AT RECEIVING END.SO WHERE IS DIPLOMATIC SUCCESS. IN MINIMIZING OUR FUTURE LOSSES? WE CAN PROGRESS BETTER WITHOUT THIS DEAL. THIS DEAL IS NOT IN THE INTEREST OF INDIA.THIS IS MODERN FORM OF EAST INDIA COMPANY. US does not provide Uranium. That Australia and other would do. They have the 'danda' or 'cycle-chain' if you will which dictates what India will get or not get. You have to get past this 'gali ka goonda' to get Uranium and other stuff. Open your eye wide and clear, the third eye!

India can not be a mere caterer of US interests! ____The Indian effort is primarily geared towards economic development. We need to operate within limits of reason and limits of power to achieve what is achieveable. If US misses the bus, India would surely move on. There would be other options, not congruent with US interests, may be even anti-thetical.
