We finally have justice upheld. This serves as a good example that the law is above everyone. This provides hope for us - the common citizens of India in the legal system. Let's hope that justice is upheld at Supreme Court as well!
He was and is a criminal mind and right now trying to get emotional benefit for his purpose. India must not let this half goon to go free else it would set really bad example in ordinary people's mind that rich, famous, powerful people are above the laws. Go Sanjay to hell for helping Dawood killing 300 innocent people.

I agree. Next should be the long awaited "SALMAN KHAN" retrial for " murdering " a number of people on the street. He should be awarded a death sentence. How did he ever get acquitted for that case when it was quite clear he did it!
All of you pepople crying 'justice is done, justice is done' please read this. I am born and baught up in Mumbai. 1992 riots were unpresidented. Male members of each and every house in mumbai equipped themselves with stones, rods, chilli powder and whatever they could. I remember myself stacking up stones in my balcony. Such was the terror in people's mind without any specific threat.
Sanjay dutt got threats that his sisters would be raped and burned alive, riotors came in big mobs. He had registered compained in bandra police station, and asked for additional police protection but was denied. He saught AK56 for protection of his Family.
I can tell that each and every member posting here would do exactly what he did. Only a powerful weapon like AK56 can offer protection against a rioting mob. He got it via underworld connection which was a crime and for which he already served 1.5 years in jail and 13 years of agony, this is punishement enough. He has not harmed anyone and is not a threat to the society.
Who is going to benefit from his jail time? instead judge could have given him 6 years of social service sentence, that would be much more productive.
This is justice without heart. Its not going to benefit anyone.

Hemal, Sanjay's dad was an MP himself with full police protection at his bunglow. Also, he had registered weaponry. He had no reason to accept such deadly weapons from an underground kingpin!! Bravo judicial system!!!

The security his dad had moved with him. He only had 2 constables assigned at his bunglow. They would be unable to defend if a mob of 20 people came. It may look a sufficient after 13 years sitting in our comfortable home, but it's totally different feeling living through those moments. He did what he belived necessary for protecting his family. At minimum I expect people to at least be human enough instead of crying 'prision him, hang him, 6 years is less'. He is a very unfortunate man.

Stupid arguments. Does this entitle every Indian to have AK56 and Grenades without violating laws? If that's what you think should be then India would have been Afghanistan by now.
Don't get washed away by your bubbly emotions. We must have to set an example and that's what has been done by this honest & courageous judge.

Can anyone prove that you did not know about blasts? Court has aquitted him of having any links with it.

Judge has made a right decision to award him 6 Yrs jail. Forget about those who died in the blasts, what about his friends whose lives were destroyed by his stupid act. If Munnabhai is a role model for everybody, any leniency to him will send wrong signals among the fans!!!

A person,33 years old, is not stupid enough not to recognize difference between underworld dons and ordinary ppl. This is a big slap on bollywood's face which is a criminal nagari growing on gunda-funds.
Indian legal system is a JOKE ! They want to make a show out of MR DUTT because he is a movie star. His only crime, trying to protect his family from attackers who threatened to kill them all. His own father was attacked but was lucky enough to escape. His only crime is to buy weapons that are illegal. How can you give 7 years in prison for that ? He serve a year before and 6 now. I think a better solution would have been a heavy fine and probation for a year . He has no terrorist back ground nor has he done any thing since.
If he is getting 6 years in prison for an act of self defense i should urge the Indian regal system to lock up all the corrupt politician in India who have done 10 times worst things then Sanjay.

A.C.; Let the policemen do their spot on job in collecting evidences and see half of our parliament will be vacated and these politicians be transferred to jail where they belong.
This is the beauty of common Indians. They parden anybody who the love, no matter how dangerous they are, no matter how many laws they have disobayed.
You can be a fan of this star. Like him. worship him as an actor. But when it comes before law one should treat him accordingly. Just because one loves him doesn't mean that he is innocent. One should look at the ground realities unbiasedly.
This judgement should be an eye opener for all those top guys who do such acts and think that they are immune to the law.
How desparate is the common man for justice in india that coutless people are commenting on something like this. Obvoiusly it was deserved, but the amount of people writing in and excited just goes to prove that people are still weary of the justice system. In other countries celebrites going to prisons in not such a big issue as that is the meaning of Rule of law, when people are not surprised that a celebrity goes to jail.
This verdict clearly underlines the motto of a fair judiciary i.e. No one is beyond the law !
It will go a long way in discouraging other people from engaging in criminal acts. It will also result in people being more cautious and more responsible about their actions.
Sanjay is a scapegoat as he has to set an example. If it was someone such as Devilal or Chautala ( as there has been similar instances regarding firearms in that family) they would be scott free as they have political connections...this is a fake way to show that rule of law exists in India...Everyone knows judges and leaders can be bought....but sometimes an example is needed to fool the masses ..that there is truth and hope...Watch he will be out soon and then people will make a big noise, but will soon forget.....
