Welcome France
by jackson on Jul 31, 2007 05:56 AM  Permalink

Pls everyone, do not divert from this topic. This forum about France coming forward to supply us with Uranium. Let us welcome with open hands. Nobody knows what will happen in future by taking a particular decision today. We have to take a step forward and ready to deal with the situation. Good job Dr.Manmohanji. Let Kalam's dream come true of a "India - Developed Nation 2020". Other nations watching this with envy. As US said India is SPECIAL. Ours is a great nation in the minds of Europe, Africa & US. Let us stop making comprisons with Paki, Bangla etc., anymore. Recently US has cut 35% aid as US not treating India "developing nation" anymore. We are marching well above and ahead. Let us hold the spirits and create a great future for our next generation.

easy to pick faults

It is easy to do nit-picking as an interested reader, but the fact remains that these are very complex negotiations and only seasoned persons like M K Narayanan could carry it through. Obtaining France's assent would not have come that easy as it seems and is a big step forward for entry into NSG.

Surprisingly, France has always been against India.

( And come to think of it, I had so many french friends! )

But, France has this misplaced pride that they can outdo USA.

So, they are never short of spirit and enthusiasim to match USA.

They are coming around because the US has given the ascent, nothing else. All the others in the NSG will come along now. The race to get the contracts has started.

Adfter all the nuclear electric industries in all these countries have not built power plants for years now, they need the business. Its all about money friend. Anyway as long as India benefits... who cares.

True. They think of their interest. We need to think of India's interest. But it is quite apparent now, though there is still miles to go, we are well on our way to progress. We should buy off the technology and then use Indian brains to progress from there.

To receive technology is like receiving education - not easy! We can attend the schools but getting educated and imbibe the culture, ethos and values is something bit different. This contemptuous tone "The race to get the contracts has started" as if it is all about and only about money is quite disconcerting. Request you to rethink this stance.

France

France is doing the right thing but let's face it, it's a copy-cat maneuver. Why do all the Western nations always copy US, why did't they show initiative earlier? They feared potential US objection at first, but now they know the US is in the same spirit. Anyway let the deals roll now, it's been too late already. And while India gets it deserved dues, let the non-proliferation lobby finish their long overdue homeworks on China and even Paki,N.Korea,Libya,etc.

The long drawn spanning nearly 3 decades of effort by India to veer around NSG barriers is finally bearing fruits and instead of commending Indian competence in this complex negotiation you are expressing disregard for France, who are indeed trying to make it easy for India. The complexity of human thought and number of manhours spent into making somehting really complex say a Mirage or LCA fighter would be an order less than effort which has gone into making the N-deal! We need lot more analysis, and a bit more of humlity before discerning any conclusion.

But they don't recognise Hinduism as an official religion. Modern France can be a real hypocrite.
