Now France wants to offer N-cooperation with India. France, no doubt, is a leader in civil N-technology, having attained near self-sufficiency in power production using Nuclear reactors. But it is difficult to forget the time when France was in the forefront of not just denying N-technology but ridiculing Indian N-research. They laughed at the Fast Breeder program as a dead project. They announced to the world that the Indians did not know what they were doing and their endeavor was bound to fail miserably. They pointed to the combined European effort in FBR development which had failed. So they confidently pronounced that in the light of this, Indians had no chance. The other Europeans though subdued in the beginning, joined the shouting and jeering brigade! Such has been the arrogance of France. So we should be very careful and analyse every move of these past naysayers critically before considering and deals. The reality is that except for Russia no one else in the world has ever been sincere in extending Nuke resources or technology to India. However, during the period of isolation even Russian help was more symbolic and psychological rather than of any real material or intellectual worth! The ultimate truth about Nuke technology is that IT HAS TO BE ENTIRELY YOUR OWN. All that India need from any of these countries is to let us import components of dual use freely. THAT IS THE BOTTOMLINE OF ANY NUKE DEAL, be it with US or France or Russia!

Murli, Well said. I dont know why we have to rely on these countries and get into deals. Our nuclear technolugy is indegenous (May be with the help of other countries). We have expertise.I dont understand why we need to still rely on these countries than go for it all out on their woen. I think we still have our own indegenous nuclear power plants. We work on them be the first to, may be come up with better technology than these countries than just signing and copypasting thes technologies. We can do it!!!. I hope instaed of buying and beggind and prove that we r a sober country, we need to show case the might of India.
The interest of France in Nuke Deal shows the development of India in the International Level and everyvody will be benefited from this Nuke Deal. No Power Cuts.. etc...
France has supplied nuclear weapons technology to China( because the Soviet Union cut off all links with China after 1960) who in turn gave it to Pakistan. France can give these to any country with money. It already did to Iraq and Iran. Soif India give enough money India can have it. What is the big deal? It has nothing to do with Man Mohan, who has just surrendered to USA. Now India cannot have nuclear weapons. Very soon India will not have any space, rocket, missile, fast breeder reactors , because Russia will be angry and will not help India as India has joined the American camp.

Ourselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. We have to be innovators of the next gen. Our country has the biggest youth and these countries has ageing population.
