as much as im happy tht a woman has made it to the post..some things to ponder.. the president..a hindu..appointed by sonia.. the vice president..stipulated to be a muslim..again suggested by sonia.. the puppet prime minister..a sikh...again appointed by sonia.. and finally the all powerful sonia..a christian..
if u come to think abt it..shes purposely ensured tht all communities are represented keepin in tradition with the age old tradition of the congress party of community appeasement..but shes kept the most powerful post for herself..a christian whos come from a country tht doesnt have much of a history with india.. beware!the rise of the raj was just as inconspicuous but within yrs had its hands on our throat.. shame on us for having vested power to a lady bcoz she was the wife of a former prime minister.. if merit isnt shown in the choosing of our leaders..how can we expect them to respect it in our premier institutes??

Keep your christian/muslim/sikh hate to yourself ... Dr. Kalam was a muslim and his nomination was made by a hindu party. Sikhs have fought valiantly and defended India in wars since they were formed.
Sonia has shown leadership skills. Yes, being the wife of a former PM and a family name of Gandhi helps - but she is a leader who commands and controls her party. Not like BJP which is full of dissidents.

I am a devout hindu, but I don't believe in BJP, especially the likes of Advani and Modi.
BJP put Kalam as president only to salvage their anti-muslim image. They begged for muslim support in Pakistan by kissing Jinnah's butt. They have taken hindu voters for granted and are rooting for muslims.
In their 5 year regime, BJP never brought a motion to remove haj subsidy or end reservation. Ok, it would have been shot down, but at least it would show their intent that they are truly a hindu party.
BJP is not for hindus. It is screwing hindu voters in the name of religion.

Let intellectuals or Political Pundits compare & revert. Is there any comparison between Dr. Kalam & Pritibha? We ignored & discarded a highly qualified, Scientist with a graceful personality to project himself in world arena as First person from India. It is our Govt only decorated him with BHARAT RATTAN, PADAM BHUSHAN, PADAM VIBHUSHAN & also received Hon Doctorate from 30 Universities. All those who were backing Ms Pratibha agree that she is better option than Dr. Kalam in comparison?
Shame that we have chosen a Tainted person & discarded a highly qualified person such as Dr Kalam sending out such a qualified person & as usual bringing in a TAINTED person.
I have no interest in Congress or BJP or any other party but really feel sorry for this selection & waste of public money in electing Ms Pratibha Patil as President. H.S.Marwah

you obviously don't understand the role of India's president with respect to his control over the administration or general afairs of the country. The US system is different. President runs the govt. In India, president is just a titualr head. Even his speech is written by the ruling party. A president in India is only useful in breaking a stalemate caused by no party having a clear majority in Lok Sabha.

The president is more than a titular head. Constitutionally, he/she can dismiss governments, reject laws passed by the parliament, take action as head of the armed forces. I agree the president does not as much power as the prime minister. In fact, we should elect our prime minister directly, and combine it into the post of the president, like the American system, make that person responsible responsible for Administration of the country. At least then the MPs and MLAs will not have the power to corrupt the administrations. There is too much power in the hands of the MPs and MLAs.
Dr. APJ Kalam was on of the great president of our nation. His open view was neutral and unbiased by any political parties, and in favour of the INDIA.

None of you unfortunately understand Maharashtrians. If there're any True Indians, they are Maharashtrians, the humble people of the Great Maharashtra.
Talk about South(y)s first. Most of the folks from these states entertain ONLY their local language. ONLY their people are getting elected in the state elections. They pull down the outsider. They don't like to speak English, leave alone the National Hindi. None of their ancestors ever fought in the Freedom Fight. Now think do you guys have any right whatsoever to accuse the Great Maharashtrians?
As for the North guys, you think you're superior to other Indians & that you're Aryans coz the Hindi is National Language & that you stay in North. Abusing each other won't lead us to anywhere. You might be aware that every Indian know how to abuse the other. But is this how we should behave?
You are almost correct to say that 40% pop. of Mumbai is of Gujjus, but do you know that 90 % brain behind the Gujju business is of Maharashtrians & South people? It's not true that you don't take side of your state when matter of national pride... We have seen it so many times before; in fact you're ready to go to the other extreme for it.
Patel & Gandhi are national heroes, but they got their due publicity. There're hordes of Maharashtrian folks who never got their due publicity even they were having equally good or better vision, e.g. Tilak, Agarkar, Savarkar, Jyotiba Fule, Chafekar brothers, Gokhale, Fadake; the list is endless.
Point is don't abuse, it would just indicate lack of intelligence. State whatever you feel is correct. One can always have a healthy discussion.

This is for the first time i dont feel that i should respect the elected President. The presidents position should be clean without an cotraversy and any candidate whose past is under cloud should not be elected for this position. Hence i dont respect the newly elected president.
