It is high time we abolish this decorative and expensive post and let the elected I mean"elected" and not appointed pseudo Prime Ministers be the head of the state and get their honours.. we do not need the expe4nsive spineless decorative pieces

Presidency and politics
by shiva on Jul 21, 2007 07:04 AM  Permalink

It is sad that stinking politics is deciding the Presidency. Our politicians reflect the larger society, like super stars in films, who pander to the larger audiences' taste. There is a divide among the vocal minority and the majority. The political field anywhere requires people ready to take the heat, just like good cooks.

In our case, we all know what we want. Even the illiterate can identify with good people, but one should reach out to them. How many are willing to get out of the comfort zone? One recent example is the Maran case. Despite his suave personality, he is no match to his grand uncle to plucate the voters. Even in advanced countries the political leaders are not top intellectuals, but they can guage the pulse of the voters, like Bush,Blair, Howard etc.

India's leaders are varied. A former Italian and others who are hardly physically fit, when others at their age are retired long back. If we want a new set of energetic people, we have to have new mindset. The young has to take the bull by the horns. To vote is good start, build a team and set out the agenda.

The present set up is there by default as there is inertia and apathy. As long as the educated feel the field is too dirty to enter and not ready to clean up the act, we have to live with the system. A new sysytem will not land on our lap.

We had fresh air with President Kalam and seems to be back to square one again. At least we know, good persons are appreciated.

A Most Respected President, a Great Human
by Monu Sohal on Jul 21, 2007 04:45 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Dr.Abdul Kalam was the most deserving person to have been India's President. He served the country relentlessly, was humble and honest throughout, his character was the most Gandhian of all the leaders our nation has had for decades.

We must bow in respect to this Great Man. He made us more proud to be Indians.

Monu Sohal.
New York.

Dear friend

Dont call the character of APJ Abdul kalam as Gandhian. Do you know Gandhian character is the character paracticed by today's politicians. All congressmens did not like Nehru as the PM when country became independent. Every district unit of congress supported for Sardar Patel as PM. But what happened, Gandhi thrusted Nehru as Pm on country. the first mistake and that was the root cause of the ills of our country

Powerfull Post
by Syed Moheideen on Jul 21, 2007 02:18 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

All the Presidents must have come with their own vision to do their best to the people. It cleary shows there is always much less power for the powerfull post.
I think Mr. Kalam acheived the most with this post. Especially, he is very good before each and every kid. It was very proud to say that our president was a great scientist. It is very sad that he didn't get support from all the parties this time. He must have learnt politics also. All the best for this new job in Anna University, where he goes to create new wealth through the students for the
country. Just solute him.
