It is a shame that we are still continuing the legacy of the British, who used to use the rashtrapathi for their viceroys who used to engage subservient indians for their mundane and menial jobs. India is now independent and Dr.Kalam very rightly said that it (RP Bhavan) is a people's bhavan. He used to shun ostentatious living in the true traditions of indian democracy. The govt should quickly think of using the place for more useful purposes. The amount spent every year for the maintenance of the huge building, estates and staff is collosal. Can India afford such wasteful expenditure?
The best President we ever had was KR Narayanan. Had he wished he would have made Sonia Gandhi as PM when she claimed that she has the majority. He did not commit the mistake shankar dayal sharma did, when he made Vajpayee as PM even when it was very clear that the BJP had only 145 members.

I was astonished to know that at Pres.Radhakrishnans funeral neither the then PM Indra Gandhi nor the then Pres. attended it. Also it becomes so clear that the most outstanding Presidents-Radhakrishnan as well as Kalam were the only two who did not have a political career before they were sworn in as Presidents. Great article!!!!!!!

friends in india we forget all the wrong doings of any politicians and political party.we r just a votebank nothing else and remember that this time the winning candidate have support of LALU PRASAD YADAV, MAYAWATI and all the other Tainted political parties.then how can we expect a good rastrapati other then Mrs.Patil(ab Patil parivaar ke telephone bills rastrapati bhavan se pay honge)

What can he with this useless constitution?. The creator of this constitution unaware of the future politicians. they failed to predict and have not given the provision of reviewing the constitution when time changes by the apex court. I would say our constitution given way to the politician to strengthen them selfs. unbalanced power in pillars of the democratic India. Give your voice to change the constitution.
Kalam never shown to the people that he is not a rubber stamp. He signed the dismissal order even when he was in Russia. And one cannot quote a single extra ordinary things that he did during his tenure.

I guess you have been seeing too many hollywood movies like Independence day,Airforce One and thats why you expect macho acts from a President whose powers are so limited.Please read a book on Indian Constitution, ill recommend Subhash Kashyaps-The Constitution.
