Why blame the building?
by Roger Binny on Jul 19, 2007 12:49 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Why we Indians are so pathetic? Why blame the building, when a jeweller flouted all the norms of building codes to make some moolah without caring for anything else. This is true in every spehere of Indian life either it is economics, money, politics, education, roads, birth, death, health, tv, entartainment. You name it everything is corrupt in India. Remember the town of Ulhasnagar, Mumbra? These are the bastions of illegal business, illegal building, illegal money. For Gods sake tell Pakistan to nuke us. That's the only way out of this system of corruption and apaty.

Hey Hem Hingne,

If you speak, just speak for yourself. You don't who the other people are and what they are capable or incapable off. So stop speaking as though you know everyone that comes to this forum and discouraging people. What Ruchita said seems sensical when some stupid asks pak to nuke us. Why the hell are you wanting to support such a stupid person?

Life in India
by Ram Chauthariya on Jul 19, 2007 12:49 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Life is indeed very cheap in India. Most of the Westerners would not even let their dogs and cats live in such pathetic living conditions.
Thus the reason for millions of Indians willing to migrate

We Indians
by RAM NAIK on Jul 19, 2007 12:18 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

In our building, their is a BrahmaKumaris workshop, in which they have indirectly disturbed the beam of the building. The workship is on the ground floor.
Since it is a religous thing..no one from building come forward to log the complain.

We have been criicizing Islamic terrorists but how about those pandits who would put couple of stone in the name of God on the middle of a road, and in no time, there is a temple. Kisi ka baap bhi kuchh nahi kar sakata. There should be a zoning law which should limit religious construction, specially on the roads.

GOVERNMENT OF MUMBAI
by UmaShankar SathyaKumar on Jul 18, 2007 11:30 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

There are so many buildings in Mumbai, which are VERY VERY UNSAFE even dogs to LIVE. Yet, thousands and thousands of INDIAN HUMANS live in them knowing that one day some thing like this eventually will happen.

On the other side, there are people who spend 60-70 lacs to buy luxury apartments.

This is one of the biggest achievement of Independent INDIA...

How many of us domate money or do something to the poor????

by Tinku Sharma on Jul 18, 2007 11:50 PM  Permalink

Uma,

What will donating money get them?

Their donation will be misused by the foundation's or charity's board members for personal needs.

Mumbai's infrastructure is very unstable and out-dated.

All the civic construction work such as flyovers and bridges are being built to meet 5 to 10 year old needs.

Mumbai's drainage system is very old more than 100 years old and on the verge of collapse.

It can neither be repaired or upgraded (either option would need digging up most of the city)!

But people keep flocking to live and earn in sub-human conditions in this city.

No matter what the spin and the marketing pitch, Mumbai is a lost cause.

People who choose to live in Mumbai are inherent risk takers. It is a city that they belong in.

But for how long? Only time will tell!!

Building collapse
by Aditya Anand on Jul 18, 2007 10:42 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Almost everyone is blaming the builders. But the fact is that a jeweller located in the ground floor of the building had knocked off the beam for renovation. Hence the collapse. Vardhaman Jewellers also did not heed to repeated warnings from members of the society.

If it true, then alongwith Vardhaman Jeweller , heads must roll from the BMC office who have given permissions to carry out this kind of structural modifications.
It is very unfortunate that people have lost respect for other peoples lives in exchange of few more rupees.Whosoever is responsible for this tragedy has to be caught and punished in most severest way.

p.s.:Also, there are other citizens who should be more vigilant and responsive to whatever is happenning in their respective surroundings.

I am very saddened after hearing the news of builing collapse. The contractor who has made this building is responsible for this.People like him should be hanged till death. The government should make the laws stringent as far as constructing apartments is concerned and understand the value of the life of its citizens.

Tanuj Baniya,

Easy buddy.

For all you know, the contractor and the jewellers who are involved in the renovation will be Baniyas like you.

Why are you shooting your mouth off and condemning people of your own kind?

But don't worry nothing will happen.

Once this news is out of the headlines, people will forget about it and get on with their lives.

It is one the most unique characteristics of the people living in Mumbai. They are desensitized to the point of being "un-human"!

They can live through anything!!
