from Sylhet, Bangladesh India is a country where Nehrus, Gandhis, Ambanis, Amitabhs, Sachins,Shahrukhs,Laloo Yadavs, Birlas, Tatas, Swaraj Pals and even Daud Ibrahims, Abu Salems are counted while thinking of anything and doing it. Mass millions are neglected. They are counted once in a decade while undertaking the census. The slums of Indian metropolitan cities particularly of Mumbai, Delhi and Calcutta are not humanly taken care of. 'Zero human status' exists there and the diseases of different kinds in different seasons and situations are inevitable. They are worse than the slums of our 'poor' country, Bangladesh. Adoloscent care, maternity care, paediatric immunization, general health care are some of the issues that our governments have extended from time to time successfully. The media of India either in the national level or in the state levels should exercise their good office for the betterment of mass people. What happens in India is that individuals are going up, not the collective units. Just think, Mr.Ambani is planning to make an Everest Building for his individual pleasure and comfort (of course, he has the right) while in many areas people are not getting drinking water. Though rain related diseases are reported in the above article, the major diseases of the slums are skin diseases which . The greater is the slum, the wider is its impact. This sub-continent really needs a HEALTH RENAISSANCE.
