they are patriotic
by Vishwamithran TKB on Jul 17, 2007 05:53 PM  Permalink

Australians are patriotic. They are not bothered about Muslim votes in India. Why the hell Indian government should try to a terrorist suspect. The arguments given is ridiculous. One TV channel was hell bent on trying to say the this man is innocent. They are very particular about telecasting the innocent family members of the culprit as well.

I wish the Australian or British police should not leave anybody who had facilitated terror in their country.

Utter Shame that our PM did not even bothered to visit Mubai on first Anniversary of 7/11 Blast and also the case has not yet started
Same PM is worried for Haneef (We know why - Votes Plz )
Govt is keen on Justice to Sohrabuddin culprits
Govt is keen for Punishment to Gujarat Riots
Govt is soft on Afzal
Govt is soft on Godhra Train Culprits
2 sides of UPA Govt

Duh! assistance!
by Suresh Menon on Jul 17, 2007 04:55 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Pls show even 1 % of this enthusiasm to help the thousands of Indians languishing in jails in Middle East etc, for no fault of theirs.

Everybody knows the motive behind this 'offer of assistance'. This case has attracted media attention world wide and this is the golden opportunity for UPA to project itself as minority-friendly and make sure they get all those votes in the next election.

UPA be damned!

Well said Suresh Menon, I don't understand why the Government is not looking after tones of other people in middle East jail, i bet there are many people won't even have access to lawyer or legal assistance.
What is the difference between this man and others ,all are human beings. Politician is always after the vote bank never to the real welfare of the people.

The difference is Haneef is Muslim
and moreover he is been charged as terrorist and India does not support punishment to terrorist (Afzal guru, Ibrahim Kaskar, Haseena)

The act of assisting Haniff released will prove to be sucidal for UPA. It is not a minority-friendly but terrorist-friendly motion. How the UPA Govt, make request to get Haniff released when they donot have any evidance of his innocenance, especially when they have not investigated the case. In case The UPA has some proof of Haniff's innocance they should come out with it immediately and let whole of India be satisfied of it, otherwise it is the real folishness of them.

Allow legal proceedings to follow...
by Rangasamy Vijay on Jul 17, 2007 04:47 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is wrong on the part on Indian Govt. to go head and foot and act in a haste to declare support for legal expenses and epressing concerns about the legal procedures being followed in Australia. With so many conflicting reports trickling in every hour, his innocence must be proved in the court first before we can extend any official support. Perhaps our PM must have lost his balance in spending sleepless nights worrying about India grown specialists in terrorism..If he is proved guilty where you will hang up your face?? There is no second opinion that innocent should be left free..You can not prove it before the trial..

My friend. This is not a simple criminal or civil suit. This involves cross border terrorism based on some hollow principles and blind faith. This will not happen in very family as you are imagining and that too in a family decending from freedom fighters and thinking about national interest first rather than religious/ communal/ regional interets..

Hope Muslims think like what you have done here. Muslims should think about innocent Muslims (if there is any) before committing such crimes.

Its a valid argument, but however I think the Indian govt's action is a message to western nations that it will back its citizens unless they are found guilty. All the Indian govt is asking for is for Haneef to be given a fair trial. Haneef has not been charged even after 11 days in custody & the haste with which the Australian govt acted in putting him detention after cancelling his visa is an act of arrogance, I would say.Think about the Purulia arms-dropping case where British citizen Peter Bleach was convicted in India & even then the British govt was advocating his release. Conviction in our land mean nothing to them. Western govts always have double standards when it comes to third world citizens. I live in Ireland & I know their attitude towards us. So I think the Indian govt's action is appropriate in this context. Sometimes you have to flex your muscles to be counted.

What fair trial? The Indian way! I think Indian Govt is not expecting Austrialians to conduct investigation a-la Monika Bedi way where the Indian investigators even failed to gather proper evidance of forged Passport.

Indian government will back their citizen provided the citizen is a Muslim. The govt will back him even if he is a proven terrorist.

RE:Australia Government is doing a great job
by Karthikeyan K on Jul 17, 2007 05:20 PM  Permalink
The reason for Australia being apparently immune to terrorist infiltration is mainly due to their geographical location, rather than anything else. A potential terrorist has to travel thousands of miles if he has to take the sea route. Think about the size of the border that India shares with Pakistan & China, and think about the difficulties of having an outpost in such a difficult mountaineous terrain. That is why we are so vulnerable to terrorists. If someone can conduct terrorist attacks in Israel, USA & UK with their famed intelligence agencies then why not Australia ? Its simply the geography that saves Australia.
