i myself am a victim.Recd a mail from a high profiled consultant from Lagos dealing in work permits. He use to call up frequently. After lot of verification etc our3 guys reached there on a valid Nigerian visitor visa but there they were given fake visas fr Canada and U.K and decamped with there money.Thankfully the guys never proceeded on those fake docs and dutifully came back to India to be caught by the immigration officers who asked them to shell out a big amount fr hving those fake docs even though they never travelled on those visas. When told the entire episode and their helplesness they were handed over to the police and later in Judicial custody fr no fault of theirs.Trial is yet to start and what it would lead to ,nobody knows.
I would like to suggest to Rediff to have a page where people can have information on the modus operandi of the Internet scamsters. This will help people to check out before subscribing for scams.
There are a number of horror stories faced by Indian in Nigeria. One of these stories said that the locals of Nigeria don't like people carrying money on them, those carrying money are sure to be waylaid and mugged, and if you happen to not have any money on you then you could have yourself bashed up with a few broken bones. Maybe, the white expats have strong security arrangements;the Indians have none and so have to stay confined to their own residential areas for the period of service or become sitting ducks to all forms of street crime. It is also said that theft and extortion is a common menace to Indians. Actually, our Govt must have an upto date advisory information service to enable the prospective job seekers to Nigeria to protect themselves

I received an offer letter of appointment along with an agrement said have been signed by the Manager HR of Zenith Bank with a very hand some salary of $18150/- p.m.and I was asked to join at Abuja, Nigeria on or before 16th Aug.2007. I contacted my friend Shri Lalit Kumar who is presently living in Abuja to verify the validity of the offer of appointment in the Zenith Bank, Nigeria. To my utter surprise I have been advised by my friend that the letter head and agreement is all fake. Later by another email the miscreants asked me to send $1750/- towards the expenses for getting me visa, work permit and completion of other formalities. I request all my Indian friends that they should be on guard so that may not receive similar email and act on it.

A perfect example of our racist mindset. We think we are whiter than the blacks and hence more intelligent (and superior). Wake up my friend!!!

arent u perhaps concieted man to think that the Africans especialy Nigerians live on trees and are inferior. They have been cheated for toolong by the White man first and then hordes of Gujaratis ...so they have learnt and its payback time mind you by Yeshwanth Pai from Bangalore
Whenever I get such a message, I reply to them and tell them to send me a small part of the amount, so that I can complete the formalities here before I can travel to collect the award money. This email stops all further mails from them.
I am currently working in Nigeria for the past one year and have during the past 4 months received enquiries from 4 very close personal friends of mine from India and Middle East. Have told them it's a case of fraud and 419 to make some money. Hope this mail would erase if at all any doubts persist in their mind that they are being denied good opportunities.
Very clear message to all "Unless you have a telephonic interview or personal interview, never be greedy to be lured by such attractive offers of employment". After all, you all know what is your market value and what is a genuine salary. So, beware friends. By Kristo

(1)check with google.com... (2)If they are using yahoo.com / rediff or any don't believe...reason being now a days all corporates are having their own website and web address... (3)Nigeria is a good place for earning...but don't go before checking the truth of deal.
Getting e-mails from Nigeria or from other African countries that huge amount of money in bank and nobody to inherit with all sort of convincing and compelling evidences. I come to write about another fraud. now a days they take your CV in in employment websites and voluntarily ask your updated CV for very lucarative offers. I even got one offer for US$22000 repeat US$22000/month salary and appointment letter as a QA QC manager in oil giant Total Nigeria with Total employment offer letter. I got intriguded and enquired with America's (original)Total and they clarified it is not true and to be careful. For that the recruitig agency gave me two or three mail id's to clear the immigration, visa formalities. If i have enquired about these in those emails I may have ended up loosing some money on one pretex or other. My own brother in law got a job in Nigeria shell for US$7000 eventhough he is a fresh engineering graduate. Nigeria Shell appointment letter told him to go Nigerian embassy to collect his visa papers and to complete his medical formalities. All the way he travelled from Chennai to Delhi and the nigerian embassy told him no visa arrived for him. So people particularly who are getting appointment letters from Nigerian companies whether they are Shell or whoever dont beleive otherwise you may end up in unnecessary spending and fruitless efforts with mental distress. I got a email at my yahoo email address that i have won MSN YAHOO PRIZE, They asked me to send them my Driving licence scanned copy and after verification they will contact me, they( Someone Dr Timothy Landon, Prize Processing manager MSN YAHOO AWARD-2007) contacted me via mail and asked me to collect the won money either from Landon or they will deposit this money with AFRICAN DEVELOPMENT BANK GROUP. They asked me to send my bank address, account no., swift code. I have sent all these formalities about 12 days ago, i got an email that your won money transfer is in progress. The first thing to do is to inform your bankers about stopping all payments out of your account. This includes electronic transfers. Second is to withdraw all monies from your bank so that no large value transaction can be done. Lastly, inform the London company saying that you are refusing all requests for payments of any kind without any form of local due diligence and reporting the matter to the Interpol or the British Police as well as the local Indian police. These measures will scare away the scamsters till they find a new scheme to lure you into it.
