Ignore the mail, if you open it by mistake, after reading the mail, delete it, because being a matured girl you know that nothing is free in this world, why some one should give you money or do you a favor when that person doesn't know you
p.s. I won't ask you pay me for my reply, take care :-)
I also got a mail in my gmail account from a distress 23 year old woman from sudan. The pics she sent was that of a beautiful lady. In the mail she narrated me her plight, how she lost her parents who were govt. officials, in the rebel attack. She told that she was now staying in a refugee camp and currently using one reverend's computer. It was such a joke! she added that her fother enmassed millions of dollars and now she wanted to disperse some to my account because she trusted me and promised that if everything was according to the plans then she would marry me. Because she had found love in me.

What you can do is click on the button link called "This is spam" next time you encounter such mail. But again you need to do this process each time you get such mail... And what another thig you can do is stop giving you mail ID everywhere.
"...Apparently, he had received a message, seemingly from the Hotmail team, ... He naturally replied to the message in the affirmative and that was enough for the scammers to get hold of his password and hack into his account..."
First of all using Hotmail itself is bad enough. Second, he would have given his DOB, zodiac sign et al in reply to the mail. Hence, he paid the price for the stupidity. Phishing will only get worse.
