I appreciate this article in rediff. It was really the need of the hour. In the last 15 days I have received 3 different kind of offers. One a girl who made me her brother, sent me her photograph and offered 1.2 million US dollars if I became the partner of her late father who had left fortune. Another from a boy who also had a similar story. The 3rd one was very interesting proclaiming me to be the winner of a lottery in China and offereing half a million dollars. They even sent a fake TT by mail along with a certificate. I have not seen such a fake TT of one of the most reputed bank of China. Its shocking friends. Dont even entertain such SHIT!!!
I have a nigerian colleaugue with me here and i just talked about this with him.. he said since June last year Nigeria has implemented death penalty for scamsters caught! and there have actually been cases where scamsters have faced the firing squad for perpetrating such scams! solid action i must say.. hope it has the desired effect..

Unfortunately, I believe it will not make any difference. That is a lawless country. When the society doesnt have any senese of ethics and the system is corrupt, there is very little the govt. can do. The problem is that a wast majority of that country are criminals.
I am sorry of that sounds rasist, but i am speaking form my personal experince. My fiend nearly became avictim of another nigerian fraud. This is widespread to unimaginable proportion.

how do you know the scamsters 'have' faced the firing squad?! from your nigerian colleague? beware of this 'colleague' for your own self. and sift net for the latest news about nigeria and not rely on a nigerian.

I think ur nigerian friend is dogging, He should know everything, his gov will be happy bercause anyhave thru scam the money comes to their country. Second how the gov will find the person operating the scam . Even if he is caught he will bribe, or he will escape telling that he knows the person personnaly. U see one article below a fool from US by name Menon has lost US $ 40,000 and he is now screaming. Tell ur friend that not all Indians are idiots.
When you receive messages saying there is a deposit left in some Nigerian Bank, you start showing geniune interest in them, and if they ask for bank account no & details, give all wrong informations, let those so called intelectuals know that they have some one more smarter than them. Also ask some geniune questions & tell them to send personolised replies, soon you will see this guys moving away to some other business, than this scams. Because after sometime they wont be able to trust on the Geniune messages also. This plan will suceed only if lots of responses go to them with fake informaton replies. I would ask everyone who gets this kinda messages to reply with wrong info to send all this scamsters to some leagal jobs.

Hey Genius. Sometimes all they need is your reply to hack your computer and get all the right information from your hard drive.
This one takes the cake, it pretends to be from www.efccgnigeria.org! The website is genuine, the mail is not.
This mail is from the Chairman of the Economic n Financial Crimes Commission's head Dr Ribadu (the gentleman is real, the mail isn't) telling you that they have caught a number of scamsters and have recovered lot of money from them and is in the process of returning it to the victims. Why tell me? Well, their lists say I am a victim, so they have mailed me. (doesn't matter if I am not a victim, their lists say so, so they want to pay me. Great!)
All they want is my correspondence with the scamsters and of course my bank account details.
So beware.You could also get a mail. You have been warned.
