Dr. Singh should have been more frank
by Minto on Jul 17, 2007 05:16 AM  Permalink

It was always known that Hyde act was going to be an issue. It is unlikely that congress will issue a waiver for India. It is also not clear that congress can issue waiver for an individual country.

Given the growing relationship with Israel, Indian lobbyists in US congress should seek help from American Israel Public Affairs Committee. Israel and India both are victims of terrorism by Muslims, both countries have great democratic tradition, both are beacon of tolerance; hostile neighbors who are out to destroy them surround both.

India has to convince USA that India is as valuable a friend as Israel. Only then she will be able to get a waiver that she richly deserves.

Also, Indian left should stop bashing USA.

A sell out
by Peter Parker on Jul 17, 2007 12:03 AM  Permalink

I never expected a good bargaining position to begin with since we have made known our constraints (lack of raw materials) to the other side, which basically has nothing to loose (everything to gain eventually).
If they expect a $10 BN immediate treaty is going to make the americans push down NPT and other regimes, the folks in india are extremely optimistic. Even a $50 BN power sector buyout will not change this position. Someone up there, my guess is the PM and NSA, completely miscalculated and got trapped in a treaty that basically forces india into a CTBT and Fissile Material cut-off along with a complete crackdown in nuclear research (which is not being mentioned -> TIFR becomes civilian and comes under IEAE safegaurds).

RE:how did america become a superpower ?
by Neta Mafia Don on Jul 16, 2007 02:24 PM  Permalink
This is what happens to a lot of people. They dont do any work and always dream of having a smooth life without any hardwork. The worst is that they dont allow others to work or think also and tries to stop others also from doing something meaningful. These kind of cartoons (mickey mouses) just want to go abroad and dream of having a good life but they dont realise that they are useless in India also. They cant even succeed in India against even people with less merit (as bing said by these popele). They are not even aware of what Indians can do and starts boasting about USA and others as though they have made him the ambassador of that country.Being a begger in USa dont require any grant qualification. Dream on.... cartoons are always a kind of fantasy only.

Bush shows up his true colours!!
by Chakravarthy Muralidhar on Jul 16, 2007 12:59 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

So, there you have it!! Bush won't seek changes in Hyde Act, but wants India to sign the 123 Agreement!! How smart....he thinks he is!Do we need to continue the talks? For whose sake? Why is our PM bent on surrendering our nuke research freedom to the US? Especially when the nuke scientists and technologists, as one voice, are dead against it. What is the meaning of this cooperation when the whole civil nuke establishment of India does not want anything to do with it? Will any cooperation take place when the team on one side has no faith in the team on the other side? Cooperation is always between equals, not one sitting over the other. Here US lawmakers, nuke administrators and their paid agents and spy scientists will be sitting over the head and shoulders of Indian scientists and extract all the info they want to dig into from our nuke knowledge base! That is all that this treaty will achieve. In addition, the US will also sabotage our nuke organisation, which they are experts at. Read all the CIA declassified documents of 60's and 70's to know what US intentions are when they talk of treaties, Agreements, Cooperation and so on!!

Ys thats true. Congress knows only one thing. This deal has to be signed else it will hurt their next election campaigns. But what she doesnt understand is taht they will vanish if they sign the deal. Anguish will have to be paid heavily by them. Anyways I dont feel from any corner taht we need this deal. usa can backstab at any time. I just feel they wanted some very imporatnt info about installations of Indias Nuclear arsenal as one of the other reader has said that. In no ways we will loose anything. Unless Scientific and Strategist community agrees fully and gives go-ahead to this deal, I wont support the deal too. Cant believe political puppets..

dont bother about so-called local scientists, most of them are trying to get US visas. they last won a nobel prize in 1930. most defence projects have failed. eg. arjun fighter, tejas fighter.

america is a pure meritocracy

anyone with merit will always succeed in america, there is no need to pull strings, pay a bribe, know a minister or have an uncle in an powerful position.

america is top in education (70% world top universities), business (300 largest corporations), science (270 nobel prizes in science), sports (2400 olympic medals)......because MERIT is given the greatest importance.

all with merit are welcome in america.

Even if this deal do not go through also Americans now have the idea of all indian nuclear instalations and arsenel as we have already given them complete details of that. The Americans might have wanted that information only and they will be more than happy now. Who knows even our politians/beuracrats and media(Especially NDTV, CNN IBN kind) was also involved in helping americans to stage this drama of Indo US nuclear deal and get away with all sensitive information.
