from Sylhet, Bangladesh. What position India occupies today either in economic or in political field in the international platform is attributable to the ethics of Gandhiji and the leadership of Pandit Nehru. The concept of Five Year Plans and giving importance to agriculture in the First plan, industries in the second and cottage industries in the third plan reveal what a great farsight he had. Many are trying to question his leadership now in 2007 but in 1947, it was a different situation altogether. Nehru might have personal relations with Edwina or anybody else. How far does the sense work when many people in India question Nehru's leadership over the issue of relations with Edwina. The new generation Indians seem to be concentrating much on IT, BBA/MBA and other materialistic approaches and aspects. History, Ethics are going to be 'withered' subjects. Sanskrit, one of the richest languages has been brutally killed (it is often called a dead subject) by the Indians in its basic land. Knowing Pandit Nehru and Mahatma Gandhi is synonimous with knowing thyself, my dear brothers and sisters. Don't blame them. If the present Indians fail to resist one Afridi (Shahid Khan Afridi, the cricketer), how it was possible for Nehru to resist 400 Afridis 60 years ago. (400 Afridis - the Pathan tribal Group invaded Kashmir after 1947).
Everyone knows it! And that love(or whatever) brought misfortunes to many Indiabs !And many disruptions in the path of restoration of happiness of the Indians! Nehru , by all means , was an incomplete and self loving man! Not a leader!

You ar absolutely right. This SOB Nehru is solely responsible for the current state of affairs in India.First, when JRD cautioned him to control the population,he laughed it off, saying that is the strength of India.Secondly encouraged public sector at the expense of private enterprise therby eliminating competition and allowing corruption to thrive, thirdly mis read the Chinese totally, everybody knows waht happened after that. The list can go on.Now we have rediff publish such cheap irrelevant article.
Or may be guys, who have written below, fail to understand that may be this relationship helped india in getting a better deal and we didn't loose hyderabad, kashmir during partition. There was no other option than to create pakistan or a hindu majority country would have to be ruled by jinnah, fundamentalist. So don't talk crap and forget nehru's love life. As long as he did his job alright, i feel we shouldn't criticize hime. also look at clinton, whatever his personal life may be, he was perhaps the best us president of all times. so don't just criticize, use your brains. And wake up indians. We look for equality when we go abroad and at home we practise casteism, look down at lower classes. Correct your attitude if you want to help india. Criticize corruption when others do and follow it in our own backyards. Have you paid bribes to babus, have you encroached on government land. Probably all of us have. So guys don't talk like a saint.

Exactly on Sardhar Vallabhai Patel!!! Patel was a very wise/brave man and had a widen vision for greater India. But unfortunately, Patel didnt have enough support from the Congress party basically ruled by MKGandhi & JLNehru. In fact, there was always some rift/conflict between Patel and Nehru on many policies. Patel was against the India-Pakistan partition, also against article 370 for Kashmir. Even Patel warned everybody on the consequences and problems in giving article 370 for Kashmir. Unfortunately, nobody listened to this wise man and now we are paying heavy penalty and it will be a never ending story. who knows, India might have been much better had only SVPatel was made to PM after Independence. But shrewed politicians MKG and JLN prevented that to happen. Remember, becos of SVPatel, all the 569 small countries were integrated to Republic of India. JLN only handled Kashmir and left it in great mess. Now, people are praising a lot about MKG and JLN but the hard truth is, these two were the real culprits for all the problems we have now in our country. MKG had broken the backbone of Indians' braveness/guts by asking to follow "Ahimsa/Sathyagraha" for independence; now, we are unable to fight against any terrorism, think about 1999/Dec IC hijack, Government of India realeased the criminals to save the passengers instead of fight & thrash the terrorist; think about 2000/Dec Parliament attack, we still not yet thrashed the terrorist behind that.

I disagree. Congress has boundaries. They can't look beyond the Gandhi-Nehru family - a good pet dog kinda approach. Keep on, Congress bhaiyon with yr slave mentality.

There are lot of ifs and else discussed here. We are discussing past and some think someone other than Mr. Nehru would had been the PM contry would have progressed. We are waisting our time. we have india in present and india is being run by an italian, absolutely right. I want to put forward a question against each here in this discussion. and answer need not to post here just answer yourself.
WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR COUNTRY. HAVE YOU VOTED IN LAST ELECTION HELD IN YOUR STATE/PLACE.
I can say that i have voted. if don't want to be ruled by Italian first do vote. what happened in past is past and we cannot change it. at least do act for future.
RE:Why we are discussing Past ..
by Ramesh L on Jul 15, 2007 08:27 PM Permalink
You cannot ignore past like that. You draw your conclusions and beliefs from past events. Understanding truths like this would help understand the reasoning behind the activities of the persons involved, which would otherwise could be taken in a different light.
Once upon a time we gaped at our public figures and / or celebrities in awe; now we study every strach, scar, nip, tuck and abrasion.
No question is too small or insignificant for us to look at closely.
If they chose to be in the public domain then so be it. Even 60 years later ... warts and all ... let it all hang out.
Even if this is just a promotion for "India Remembered: A Personal Account of the Mountbattens During the Transfer of Power" where their daughter "Pammy" admits that the last viceroy of India, Lord Mountbatten, could not control his 'philandering wife' Edwina.
What's more as 'consumers' of the resulting books, plays, movies, videos and photographs -- that's us -- we are not primarily looking to be entertained or transported. We're just looking for data, more and more data, the more raw the better.
And who cares whether an honest Congress Party will accept the truth or not or that whether, today, it hurts some of us -- or all of us -- or not!
The truth is, "Mamu" has been Mountbattened i.e. Mounted by this little Miss Batten.

I think the result has been opposite. Muontbatten was hell bent to divide India in two peices after sensing this.

Division was good for India .... I can't even imagine having to share our country with those pesky Pakies and Bangla Deshies ... we have enough of problem already with those who chose not to crossover in 1947.
