Let N-deal Fail, Let UPA Fall
by san man on Jul 08, 2007 10:10 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Let's let the N-Deal fail, and watch the UPA govt fall. They staked their prestige on the negotiations, and have allowed themselves to be sucker-punched. Bush likewise has stuck his neck out in reaching out to Putin. It's not clear that Whitehouse-Kremlin bonhomie will last under a Democrat administration. An issue like Kosovo could easily break any entente. Putin may be able to play games with Iran, but India is not small like Iran, and is capable of putting some squeeze back on Putin, when it comes to arms deals. It's better that the UPA falls, since they're the real stumbling block for India.

by vinay kapur on Jul 08, 2007 07:12 PM  Permalink

Both appear desperate. We can wait till the next Presidential elections in USA.One and half year is nothing in the life of a nation. We might hit the wrong goal post in a hurry.

When some one is(India) itching to get attention this is what happens, everything was going great albeit little slow, some nut head in India, talked about signing Nuke co-op with USA and we are in mess now, I can't stop laughing that noone in the admin saw this coming...that ultimately we will be curbed !!!

America needs to come out of the past, and shed its tendency to play smart-ass.
There is no point negotiating with the Americans. Let us wait till the next US Presidential elections, and learn from this exercise and move ahead.

America is not Trust worthy
by shyam Singh on Jul 08, 2007 04:40 PM  Permalink

we have seen many times in past how america has blocked the India's needs i.e Cyogenic engine and many more...
The current economic development of india is not due to america,it is because of the huge consumer strenght & self development.
We should not depend on the developed nations especilly on America because Amecicans are
dual toung people.Develop our own tecnology to use Thoriam as fuel.
1.Why our netas feel pride in licking america's ass ?
2.Why Manmohan is making this deal so much importent & not stressing on cutting the Power Transmission losses & Hydro power projects in North-east,Jharkhand,Himachal,Uttarakhand ?

In nutshell this UPA gove. is a propoganda gove.
and Sonia is the boss of it.

INDO-US NUCLEAR DEAL
by suresh nair on Jul 08, 2007 04:31 PM  Permalink

No matter what, at this stage, it is very important to receive a steady supply of uranium for successful implementation of its 3-stage nuclear reactor programme for generation of power. Our industries are starving for want of continuous supply of energy and nuclear energy seems to be the need of the hour and the one and only reasonable solution. The issue of reprocessing of spent fuel is decades old. Perhaps, for the time being, this can be kept aside and the supply of uranium ensured so that the energy targets are achieved.

no big deal !
by Shailesh S on Jul 08, 2007 03:18 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

this nuclear deal is really no big deal - and india need not act in haste no matter what .. india is the customer .. so let it look at the quality and price and then determine ...let india think on its own and then do whatever is needed .. agreed it is very difficult to act that way but it wud pay rich dividends in future...

True. American used similar tactics to force Inida when the nuclear bill was under the senate consideration. Those old tactics wont work now. Now everyone knows Americans are desperate to get into big business deals with India. We should not compromise on our interests.
