Not right to blame the BMC alone...
by Ponga Pandit on Jul 03, 2007 05:31 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

...because do we ever think twice about throwing rubbish/garbage on the streets...out of train windows...careless disposal of plastic...etc. etc.????????

A BMC Cleaner can ONLY DO so much!!!!...but what if we start behaving like responsible and civil citizens????...Can we not ensure that we have a social responsibility towards our village/town/city/state/country?????? Can we not stop ourselves from littering irresponsibly????...The BMC is, no doubt, a behemoth, but even it has its limitations....corrpution, lack of good manpower...but if we cut down on senseless behaviour, it will show...!

Very true.
I've seen people struggle to crush a bottle of coke so that they can throw it out of the train window.
Is it so hard to just carry the bottle with you and throw it in the trash can when you get down at the station ?

We need a benevolent dictator like Li Kwan u of Singapore to ruthlessly instil civic sense in mumbaikars,to start with.No Govt.alone can do enough.education of and cooperation by end users of civic amenities.we go abroad and behave properly but the moment get out of our own airport, start throwing litter everywhere.Drainges are cleaned to some extent b4 monsoon.but we immediately throw solid waste in to it.

It is not only BMC to be blamed. All mumbaikars who have made this city their home including the lakhs staying in shanties and streets have to share it.It our complete lack of civic sense and our carefree attitude towards cleanliness in all sections of society which is responsible.Ofcourse add to it our CORRUPT politicians , and officials and it is no wonder we are suffering year after year. How much of money is drained in beautifying roads by making wide dividers ,which ironically lead to flooding .Then these are broken and again another set of dividers appear in their place .Look at the cement pavement blocks used .A normal rain and they give way creating craters .With such squandering of pubic money it is no wonder neither mumbai is beautified nor we are spared of rainy woes . Last but not least ,mushrooming of shanties over gutters ,Malls and high rise bldgs all over the city ensure that there is no place for the rain waters to go except into your and my houses and roads .It is a very tall order to improve our city .So long as we stay the way we are ,there is very little hope.

never ending story
by Dragon Cares on Jul 03, 2007 05:17 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

hello guys:
Are these are new to our Great Mumbai city? Didnt we experience the same for the past so many years? Same situation has been happening so many years; same is happening now and same will continue to happen in the years to come. The situation of total submerged in the water will never change in Mumbai. At the time of every heavy rain, our great Politicians and Admistrative Officials will spell out so many "useless promises" knowing well that they cant be done. After rain, everybody forget everything and life will go on. Some politicians even telling dream words "Let's make Mumbai captial of Asia beating Shanghai,China". Dreams are free for everybody. I can bet entire my properties, Mumbai could never come even near to Shanghai not only now, not even in the next 50years. Can we eliminate the "Biggest Slum in Asia",Dharavi? No way, Never; Can we have a systematic Drainage System in Mumbai? Only in our dreams. Let Politicians and Administrative officials eat all our taxes and let them enjoy the luxurious life and let poor people suffer like anything. Bcoz, how could we expect honest/good serving politicians when we ourselve are so much corrupt and lazy. Standard/Quality of the politicians are based on the standard/quality of the people who selected/elected them. So, no use of crying at the time of crisis. Let's let to live with crisis in our entire life. Long Live India's corruption!!!!

What have you done to stop this corruption? Ever tried asking yourself this. I ask this often to myself and instead of the government believe we should hang our head in shame. We do not care enough for our country to do anything about this. When was the last time you put in an RTI request for the bad road in your neighborhood? When was the last time the societies in your neighborhood formed an ALM and filed a suit against the corporation in the court using the RTI information.

STOP LIVING IN DREAMLAND
by richard santiago on Jul 03, 2007 04:09 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

THE BMC,THE RAILWAYS THE CONGRESS NCP ALLIANCE AND THE SHIV SENA SHOULD STOP LIVING IN A DREAMLAND.HOW CAN A NON EXISTENT DRAINAGE SYSTEM TAKE THE BRUNT OF THE MONSOONS
ROADS ARE REPAIRED SHODDILY BANG IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MONSOON AND IGNORED WHEN THE SUN SHINES
THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM SHOULD HAVE BEEN IMPROVED YET WE KEEP HEARING THAT IT WILL BE DONE BY 2011 ..IF WORK IS CARRIED OUT IN THE NON MONSOON SEASON 24/7 THE TIME PERIOD CAN BE CUT IN HALF
THE BMC TALKS ABOUT PAYING PEOPLE FOR THEIR GARBAGE,BUT WHAT ABOUT THE GARBAGE WHICH IS DUMPED BY THEM IN EVERY OPEN SPACE AVAILABLE .THE TRUCKS USED TO CLEAR THEM AWAY ONLY MANAGE TO DIRTY THESE PLACES AND CAUSE A STINK .THE DAY WHEN SHIVAJI PARK WILL BE COVERED IN GARBAGE IS NOT FAR AWAY
WHAT ABOUT THE RAILWAYS,THE STATIONS AND THE COACHES ARE THE MOST FILTHIEST ,YOU PAY 600 FOR A FIRST CLASS PASS AND SIT IN A COACH WHICH IS FILTHY,LEAKING AND INFESTED BY ROACHES AND RODENTS .THE PLATFORMS ARE NO BETTER AND THEY PRIDE THEMSELVES THAT THESE COACHES RUN ON TIME .NEVER MIND THAT THE COACHES ARE EQUIVALENT TO THE BMC GARBAGE TRUCKS.THE NEW COACHES WILL BE ON A TRIAL RUN IN OCTOBER ,SO TILL THEN WE CONTINUE TO TRAVEL IN THESE DUMPS
AND IN BETWEEN ALL THIS THE RULING ALLIANCE AND THE SENA/BJP ALLIANCE KEEP SHIFTING THE BLAME AND POACHING MLA'S/MP'S FROM EACH OTHER
IF THIS SITUATION CONTINUES ,FORGET 2011,MUMBAI WILL COLLAPSE BY 2009

Privatise BMC. Get this body to be accountable to every rupee spent. As for enscroachments....we never see the corporator of Dy Commissioners getting punished for encroachments that happen in their ward. Start doing this and you will see a change happening over nite.

Privitise BMC, so the blame can not be put on politicians and yet they can eat their pie as usual through Corporate BMC as they get from any other corporate in India, and BMC will then cater to Upper class well charging them 10 times, and will charge others double & tripple for the same service, then you will not be able to balm politicians as well, although in such a private BMC, there will be good amount of stake of the current politicians !!
Ha ha ha
Our Educated people are so educated that they think privitisation is the key to solve any problem !

It is not only the government's proble but our problem. There are millions of educated ppl who want to do something. To start with the media can play a huge role in showing what is being done re the Mumbai refashioning, show reports on which flyover is making progress, which is not, show the issues that the government is facing and ask for solutions - you will get them from the public.

Plastic Floods
by Dinesh Kurup on Jul 03, 2007 02:56 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Every time there is a deluge, people blame BMC. Waht can BMC do if the average Mumbaikar is not willing to change his lifestyle. the need of the hour is desilting of Mumbais drains and de-clogging all drains of the plastic waste that choke them all. The collected plastics have to be re-cycled and garbage segregation has to be done on a daily basis on a house to house level. BMC will never be able to run this activity. The city badly needs agencies like ONYX which have the required expertise to run a show at this magnitude. Its no point cribbing....its time to wake up and ask "whats the government doing with garbage?" The governments job is to adminster. Let professional companies handle garbage, like it is in all western countries.

IS PLASTIC IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE FLOODS? THE DRAINAGE SYSTEM WHICH THE BMC AND MMDRA ARE REPAIRING AND CONSTRUCTING FOR THE LAST SEVERAL YEARS IS NOT HELD RESPONSIBLE? THEY DO NOT CLEAN THE WHOLE YEAR AND WHEN THE MONSOON IS NEARING THEY START FLOATING TENDERS. WHY DO THE BMC , MMDRA AND GOVT. OFFICIALS START FLOATING IN THE FLOODS OR THEY WANT THE CITIZENS TO FLOOATING THEM IN FLOODS AND THE DRAINAGE.

Mumbai used get 100 inches of rain there was no such flooding any where except 2-3 places but now only few inches of rain whole mumbai gets flooded.
This is mainly due to criminal negligence of concerned authority and lack of accontability .
