Aboard USS Nimitz, July 01,

He may have become an American citizen but Lieutenant Commander Mohammad Kamil%u2019s heart still beats for India. As the only Indian American serving on the USS Nimitz, the supercarrier%u2019s scheduled port call in Chennai from July 2-July 5 will definitely be a more joyous period for Kamil than any of the 5,000-odd personnel onboard.

One of the five dentists manning the fully equipped dental facility on board, the 40-year-old migrated to the US over 18 years ago. He says, the US gave him all that he had aspired for, a great life, a secure future, prosperity. But India holds a special place in his heart. %u201CI will be visiting Chennai as a US citizen but I am an Indian at heart. It will be an emotional experience for me. I lived in India for 22 years,%u201D adds Kamil.

His wife arrived in Bangalore a few weeks ago to be with her parents. She will be coming to Chennai along with the children to spend time with him. Kamil%u2019s two-year tenure on USS Nimitz ends this July.

He says, %u201CWhen I migrated to the US, I could not speak even a word of English. I can%u2019t tell you how delighted I am to be aboard Nimitz on its first port visit to India.%u201D

america is a meritocracy

anyone with merit will always succeed in america, there is no need to pull strings, pay a bribe, know a minister or have an uncle in an powerful position.

america is top in education (70% world top universities), business (300 largest corporations), science (270 nobel prizes in science), sports (2400 olympic medals)......because MERIT is given the greatest importance.

all with merit are welcome in america

Is this an issue? USS Nimitz unluckily got caught in the 3-day-media-frenzy as there was no other issue? The patil issue has been dropped now, Nimitz is next, now they are frantically searching for another issue for 3-days-of-media-frenzy.
As for the communists a no. of them with red flags would be there and standing in awe looking at the warship... bhishun...

Ridiculous,
by Ravikumar on Jul 02, 2007 12:14 PM  Permalink  | Hide replies

Its ridiculous that communists are opposing India's frienship with U.S while insisting relations with China and Pakistan. Its Pak which has backstabbed us many times.

Its the U.S which supported India during China War.Chinese agression was stopped because of American open support.
Also U.S saved many lives by supplying wheat and other commodites under pl-480 during drought.
Shameless people like communists have no right to talk about safety since they supported china during its war with India.

Nimitz visit
by N R Pai on Jul 02, 2007 12:12 PM  Permalink

The world knows that the US policy is to neither confirm or deny the carriage of nuclear weapons on their naval ships. This is as far as the weapons are concerned. The second being the fear of radiation leaks is just a smoke screen for the RED parties who are, in no position to BITE so they BARK,to show their continoued 'anti-americanism'while their big bosses' children go to the US for studies, business etc.NOT China. They can only fool the poor ill informed workers of the Chennai port trust.
God save this confused lot, I really pity them, as they portray themselves as the opposition in a ruling alliance while their heart is elsewhere.

National security must be the concern
by balakrishnan varrier on Jul 02, 2007 11:55 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

What our politicians must be concerned and should raise voice about, is the national security of our country. The US has its own method of servelience of other countries' security positions. A closer look from the shore of a country may provide them better opportunities to plan and anchor "invisible radars" to spy the mainland nearby.
Though our scientists in the DRDO have developed many state-of-the-art equipments and methods to prevent security piracy, we should not forget history. The Vasco de Gama (Portuigese), the Dutch and the East India Company (British)anchoring history should not be repeated in a different way the docking of USS Nimitz at Chennai.
But our politicians do not appear to be concerned about the national security issue.
It simply shows that the politicians do not do their home work and are cashing on the Nimitz visit to get cheap publicity.
