Ind-Rus Relation
by Prashanth Bharadwaj on Nov 25, 2011 08:33 PM  Permalink

Over the years our politicions have played a more of a devastating role in politics and corruption. Yet one thing everybody have maintained is the Indo-Russo Friendship. It is not possible for every indian to forget the soviet support for us in 1971 Indo-Pak war over Bangladesh. Soviet used its VETO in the UN when the US and NATO tried to pass an Armed action against India in support Pakistan... Other wise an Iraq like or Afgan like war would have destroyed our whole country. And the mere presence of the Soviet's Naval Vessels (in spite being less in nos) Stopped the British and US Naval advancement and once their support for India was made public China did not attack India from north (as asked by the US for its assistance) since she feared Soviet's will attack China if she attacts India. Today India is a world power just because one country stood by us throught in our troubled days (Soviet union and then Russia). It is always better and its our basic duty to give Russia a special friend status and nothing wrong in supporting Russia all the time because they are one time tested trustable Friend (Rather Brothers). We must never ever forget our past and fall towards attractive countries. We can be diplomatic with other countries as well but always keep Russia the most prefered nation above any other country. Truly i look Russia as a elder brother who stood by us till we are matured and capable of taking the right decisions.

Situation has changed because of a Pro-American Indian PM
by Dipak Bose on Nov 12, 2007 04:51 PM  Permalink

Indian foreign secretary and National Security Advisers are both telling lies. It is not the Russians who have refused to give 4 new nuclear plants, but India does not even wants to talk about this issue with Russia because that may upset the Americans. There was no discussions in Moscow about the nuclear plants at all, because India wanted not to discuss it.

Thus, these people from India are trying to put another pack of lies to justify the Indo-US deal. Now they would say unless we sign up, even the Russians will not supply anything. This is a total lie.
Russians even offered, when Putin came to India last time, offshore nuclear plants, which would be outside the jurisdiction of the NSG, but India was not at all interested.
This is the reason Russia also does not want to give any importance to India, as India is a lost cause for them.
Read this from The Telegraph:

Moscow, Nov. 11: Unwilling to upset the passage of the nuclear deal with the US, India will not sign an agreement with Russia on the sale of four nuclear reactors for Kudankulam when Manmohan Singh meets Vladimir Putin here tomorrow.

The intergovernmental agreement was to have been the centrepiece of Singh%u2019s 30-hour visit, the shortest ever by an Indian Prime Minister to Russia.

It is not clear whether Delhi lost nerve or whether the Americans put pressure on India not to go ahead with the Russian reactor deal, at least not at this stage.

What is clear is that India has decided to wait un

India needs to setup joint venture for geo-thermal energy with Russians
by apjunkmail on Feb 08, 2007 11:51 PM  Permalink

India needs to setup joint venture for geo-thermal energy with Russians and others.
If this technology develops it can end energy wars, lower the funds for these Middle East countries that fund terrorism, as India has no oil it is very important that it sets up such systems.
The earth%u2019s heat is always available and depends neither upon the climate nor seasons. The earth%u2019s heat is available practically everywhere. It is not necessary to store geothermal energy. Drilling technology is very mature to dig deep holes and pump water into them, the exiting heated steam/water can drive heat exchangers that convert heat to electricity. Put the IITs , DRDO, set up joint ventures with Russins, Americans, etc to use this resource. All the talk about economy growth means NOT A THING without cheap energy source.

Beautifully analysed/ my two bits
by on Jan 26, 2007 04:22 AM  Permalink

The article was a lucid piece of writing. The BrahMos missile symbolises Indo-Russian ties today- not that of donor and recipient but that of equal partners. Truly Russia and India have never been as prosperous as they are now! May the Bear and the Elephant stay united always!

I still dont understand why we never invited a Russian President to be a Republic Day guest untill now...instead of inviting the likes of Saudi King who is the main Patron of Islamic terrorism around the world (inculding India) and who consistently oppose India in the International arena inorder to please his fellow muslim country Pakistan, we should have invited our all weather friends like Russian Pres or Israels' P.M long time back..

Young India should remember our true friend Russia
by on Jan 24, 2007 08:19 PM  Permalink

Thanks to Rajiv Sikri for explicating the fact that independent India's greatest ally has been Russia - a fact that young Indians, so infatuated by Americana, should not forget. I knew of Bhilai, the 1971 mutual defence pact etc. and generally about other Soviet help but was unaware of the extent to which Soviet Russian help extended to even IITs as a commenter pointed out. The USA is a fickle friend whose commitments to Pakistani dictators and Chinese trade etc. cannot be relied upon. As a child growing up in 1970s UK I loved the US series Star Trek but as an adult I realised that the real USS Enterprise steamed into the Bay of Bengal in 1971 threatening India not to interfere in the Bangladeshi war of independence against the gang-raping Punjabi muslim army of the US-backed military dictators who have done so much to destablise India. So much for US rhetoric about democracy and human rights!!!

Russia is special for India but...

We need not be so much emotional about it and moreover 100% standing by own is good for a nation. Moreover their are lots of doubts over KGBs activities over issues related to India though outside Soviet stood along with India in its most matters.

Come on! Dont be blind again. It is only you for yourself.

When 30lak Israel is doing everything by its own then where are we to look outside for every bit of our action.

Israel is built by US. You can call it as a mini USA it implies Israel has got all the access to the US technology. Ofcourse it is easy to build on available platform.
