India should do defence spending more.
by Shadow on Jan 21, 2007 05:53 AM  Permalink

navin Soviet collapsed because it had bad economy not because it spend more on military it was just that it didnt make more that it can spend!.

India doesn't have to go that way, India can spend upto 3% of GDP for defence (our current is 2.5%), but it can surely spend another 1% of GDP on new technology, reserarch and development, and especially on indegneous production and development. The 1% of Indias GDP is quite high close to 6billion dollar now-a-days and if spent well, we can surely see extradordinary benefits!.

***** IMPORTANT Prescription *****
by Navin Vijaykumar on Jan 21, 2007 05:34 AM  Permalink  | Hide replies

It is a matter of serious concern - MOD take note...

We must not judge anyone (especially the Chinese, after 1962) by intentions; but capabilities ; On this basis my observations (as a lay man)are as follows:

Steps to be taken (or considered):

Temporary Deterrent (OPTIONAL):

0.Review Tibet & Taiwan policy

Long term deterrent (UNCOMPROMISING ESSENTIALS:

1.Air Force - (Acquire New Fighter jets)
2.Navy - New Aircaraft carriers & nuclear
capable submaries)
3.Review the nuclear missile stock pile.
4.Army - Increase strength of the Armed forces,China has 2.5 million..India(with 1.3 million) must surely exceed that. I cant imagine that this will be a burden. We have sufficent man power
5.(Long range nuclear capable ICBM with lethal chemicals (Acid based) should follow soon).Im afraid we need all these to counter the Chinese although it sounds cruel..We are dealing with a ruthless cold blooded race which mayl threaten humanity in near future

Iam conscious all of the above involves money. But no country compromises on Defence and India should not be an exception(given the type of neigbours we are surrounded by)

Remember Soviet Union , despite having superior military capabilities to the US collapsed as it tried to match Americas military might(spending) , which it could not sustain & thus wrecked its economy.America spends more than the rest of the World put together (USD 530 billion). Therefore the economy should be taken care of (More liberalisation & privatisation) at the same time.

PS: Jail the communists (left ) if they dare oppose in matters of national security

It is high time, let us speak about satyagraha, peaceful coexistance and other crap. Let us keep believing our agressive neighbours and keep giving away our interests. You are going to see.... India is never going to realise! Even if we realise, our communist party friends are never going to let it happen!

The question is what are we gonna do about it?
by Shadow on Jan 21, 2007 02:29 AM  Permalink

We know that? But what are we (india) gonna do about? Are we gonna launch a formal protest and do nothing or we are gonna improve our defence capacities to counter their challenge. Are we gonna implement counter measures in our satellites to prevent a missile attack?.

What is the plan India?

Whining about it?
Wussing about it?

Or Doing something about it?

China has High Ambitions, what ambitions India has?
by Ambrosia on Jan 21, 2007 02:14 AM  Permalink

As you all very well know, China has been a member of G-8 since a long time. Maybe it was a way to counterbalance Japan, that it was included in G-8. Since then China has demonstrated the ambitions and aspirations of a becoming Global Power, which it has now become. Hence it may be justified for China to protect its interests from Foreign powers including India, which it sees as a Major nuisance. Before commenting on issues such as China's recent ASaT missile, we need to understand and evaluate our own capabilities before making a knee-jerk reactions. It is worth while to understand, how China has evolved from a wrecked Communist State to become a Global World Power inspite of its huge population. I think the real issues are internal to our country. At the miserable state of politics and decadence in premeir National Research Organizations like DRDO, ISRO and HAL. Nothing works. That's the flawed image which I have of India as a Regional Power. When a country ignores its majority and wooes minorities for votes, it going to be doomed for failure. There is bound to be a revolt, as I can see the doctors already doing...Somehow I feel Congress as a Post Independence Political Party has taken India almost down the drain, its only its majority population which has sustained Indian development, and that Congress gives us in return is Quota system and Nehruvian Socilism. If they feel its so good, why not give Quota to all economically deprieved....why only to certain castes and now Muslims...WTF is going on. Why should India even expect us to fight when it doesn't even bother taking our views into account.

It really disturbs me that how many time does India has to lose its opportunities to China. When there was political turmoil in India and politicians were engaged in horse trading. China opened itself and got the economic advantages, which should have been taken by India. India had and has better suited and trained manpower with the advantage that English is widely spoken here. The result is that China is the second largest economy, where as it should have been India. Thanks to the policies of the then finance minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh that all was not lost and India at least got IT. The achievement in IT sector is thing of proud for India. But for making the masses rich, India has to emerge as a manufacturing country.
The criminal cult, or so called politician have in the past inflicted huge losses to India due to procrastination. India is capable of doing any thing, but there has to be a political will at first place. It is no hidden fact that politicians have their mind set to make money in whatever way they can make. Why so many defense products are imported when Indian has the capabilities to produce them. It is very pathetic that in the world the governments have to make efforts to generate resources where as in India resources are lying in shape of scientists and engineers but they are not utilized. Our nation is an independent nation, but we still need to have freedom from corruption. Once corruption is gone, India can do wonders! So my dear fellow countrymen please put up a demand to make a missile which will destroy corruption.
I have full faith in Indian scientist, as their abilities are second to none, would be able to take up this challenge and would be able to give a fitting reply %u2013 the only thing is Netaji should understand.

AMERICA'S WORRY
by UmaShankar SathyaKumar on Jan 20, 2007 11:19 PM  Permalink

These days Americans are complaining about everything. Failure in Iraq and Afghanistan is because of Iran. so they want to bomb them. Blaming China's blastic missile, which could knock of spy satellites. If the Americans would have conducted the same test. You will useless Bush praising it as Milestone in American technological capability. If any other country does it, it becomes violation.

Someone is going to nuke Wahington DC and US will be blaming dead Saddam.

Studid Americans. They sold Nuclear deal to make some money. We Indians are double stupids and lazy.
