Check out the date for the day ship was launched it april 1971. That is more than 30 years old. What kind of technology are you talking about ? The US Navy was probably about to get rid of the ship altogether. I know someone in Indian goverment must have made some good money over the deal. As you know defense itself is the biggest business in the world.

the ship may be old but it is still in a class that we haven't had. it represents a quantum jump for our navy in terms of capability. all three of our aircraft carriers have been similar used ships. that does not mean they were not useful. once we begin operating that class of ship maybe we would go on to build our own or buy some more contemporary ones. that is a done thing.
I guess getting this used ship from US could be a good idea for a short term. To gain advantage, you need to have technology which is yours and has a distinct advantage over superior. We need to focus on indigenous tech. if we need stronger border protection. BIg is good sometimes, but not alwasy the best move.

All ships have deaths and accidents. It's dangerous work being on ship. You need to get out more and understand how things work

Its just an addition to fleet..that too by way of buying an exisitng US ship..we can boast abt stronger navy..but it would be great...when we start building our own..and US buying from us
